2012 – Marvel Comics – Shattered Heroes Series – Spoiler alerts
I’m always looking out for cheap bargain comics to read. Some can be rubbish but there are a few gems among them, like this one.
The story is an alternate timeline aftermath piece following the battle of Ragnorak (the Norse mythology end of the World), an epic story arc regarded as a highlight of the comics and the subject of the next Thor movie.
In this timeline, Thor has vanished in a portal that was gashed into his own thigh, and the surviving gods have no recollection that he ever existed, though Loki has a few vague recollections and sets off trying to find his brother-nemesis.
Meanwhile, a new Thunder God turns up, Tanarus, an older, haggard, humerlous looking figure, a stark pragmatic charicature of Thor. He performs a few daring deeds to impress the gods, but we see that he is possessed by the alien denzens of the under-realm who plan to conquer the divided kingdoms of Asgard and Midgard (Earth).
Thor meanwhile, along with other seemingly dead gods is being swallowed by a vast space mouth called the Demagorge.
Really epic scale stuff. I hope to see other comics in this arc some day.
