You know there’s a telemarketer on the line when...
• They start off with ‘Is that Mrs Evens?’ And they pronounce Evans as Evens instead of the ‘E’ sounding like the ‘e’ in ‘egg’.
• When there is silence for a while then the line might go dead. Apparently they ring several people at once and if you are not the first one to answer you get cut off.
• They have a foreign accent. I don’t think I’ve ever had a call from what I’d call a native English speaker. Having said that, Australian charities are nearly as big a nuisance as scammers and they employ native speakers.
People have various ways of dealing with scam callers but I heard a new one the other day. They put their three-year-old on the phone for a chat. I’m not sure that’s a good idea but that’s what they do.
The photo is one of Australia's stunning wildflowers - a Sturt's Desert Pea.

It is quite annoying to be called so often by telemarketers. Here, the Democratic party is after to pay dues and contribute as well. I do contribute, but get tired of being contacted so often.

@JamesHxstatic I thought it insulting really - to expect us to listen to a taped message.

Very true about how to recognize telemarketers. What is funny is don't they know we have caller ID? If I don't recognize the number especially an out of state area code I do not answer. When I have and they start their spiel I usually put the receiver down and go into another room for awhile. Usually when I return I have a busy signal, ha

I have heard that people say it is Santa and put their small child on the phone. Yeah, I would like to hear that conversation!

I usually screen my calls, got an interesting name the other day so I just had to answer to see what this one was. The name was QQQQ however it was all about the same lower your credit card bill .. blah blah blah. They get so annoying. I have had fun with them too until they got annoyed and hung up.

@JudyEv I did the not comprehending one with the windows guy, he kept asking me to turn on my computer to open windows. I would say yes I have windows but it was cold out and I didn't want to open them. We did that for a few minutes til he hung up.

It must be an awful job. Mostly I'm sort of polite but I hang up as soon as I can.

Been hearing a lot of these lines or instances. At work, we have a designated phones. When one receives a call it should go to the phone application in the computer. If the call comes in on the physical phone, I am sure it is a telemarketer.

That is so funny that you mentioned the 3-year old child at the end of your post. I am guilty of doing just that with my own children when they were small. Whenever a telemarketer would call, I would just hand the phone to my young daughter or son. Such fun times! haha

@JudyEv I don't recall any of their conversations, and no, I never told them it was Santa Claus on the line! I would just hand them the phone and say "Here, it's for you. Talk to them." And then I would go back to whatever it was I was doing at the time.

Those telemarketers are a pain in the behind. Not a job I would ever do. Beautiful flower is sort of reminds me of a columbine.

If I don't hang up on them, I just put the phone down and let them keep talking while I do something else.

Beautiful flower. Loved the idea of putting a little kid on the phone.

I no longer answer my phone unless I recognize the call. I get many messages starting in the middle of a sentence. I'm assuming they think I'll be worried that I missed the important first part of the message and will call them back. Ugh.

I haven't had that happen here yet but I guess it is only a matter of time.

It's very annoying isn't it - and often the calls come at a most inconvenient time.
