Are you interested in learning a foreign language?

My mind has been busy digesting all the information that I get to master the foreign language I have been studying for a month now. It is not easy as its grammar structure is very much different from English. But I have a goal and I want to be able to talk to my boyfriend someday using his native language. I would like to at least talk to him even in simple sentences before I get busy finishing my graduate study.
Are you learning a foreign language? What keeps your from studying it?

@YrNemo I guess Italian words are somewhat similar to Spanish if I am not mistaken. How long have you been studying Italian?

If you want you can practice Italian with me, I can even understand several dialects, my Mom is from a different region, my husband from another and his parents from two more different. You see, I am lucky. Anyway if you talk "Italian" and not dialect every Italian should understand.

@LadyDuck
'talk' with your hands and facial expressions?
An Italian postgrad student often showed us how it should be done, and we had a good time laughing. He came from the south.
I will try learning Italian at the end of this year (right now, we are running prepare for the Christmas break). Will try it out with you.

@ilocosboy Are you studying any of those languages at present. I studied Spanish and Mandarin Chinese before but it didn't progress. I have friends who can help me learn Spanish and Mandarin, unfortunately, it hasn't became my priority.

@ilocosboy I was reluctant to study Korean before. Since my boyfriend can speak English, I thought that it would be enough. But I have realized that sometimes it is still difficult for him to express himself in English. That is why I decided to study his language to break the language barrier.

@m_audrey6788 You have a point in there. My tagalog is not that good. I wonder if it is because I have grown mixing English and Tagalog when I am speaking.

@JudyEv I am studying a Korean language. Did you enroll in language schools where you were learning French and German? I am just studying Korean by myself. It is my boyfriend whom I talked Korean and he has been the one correcting my errors.

@JudyEv Yes, it is but I think that with a strong determination, everything can be achieved. Actually, I think now that Mandarin Chinese is more difficult than Korean.

@JustBhem Have you tried enrolling yourself in Korean or Japanese classes? I am now studying Korean and I must stay it is not easy. My family thinks I am planning to marry my boyfriend because I am studying his language. But aside from that, my reason for studying Korean is I want to be able to create another job opportunity for me in the future.

@JustBhem It will be a month now that I started to study Korean. I started with their alphabet, writing and reading. For one month, I have memorized some Korean vocabulary words and basic expressions. My boyfriend has been my Korean teacher. By the way, why do you want to learn Korean?

I am interested to learn chinese because I think as filipino I need to know it now a days. As we noticed, a lot of random chinese people living or doing business here in the philippines and language is one of the barriers of communicating with them.

@cttolledo That is so true. Have you tried studying their writing system. I have observed that when I studied hangeul before and I just dealt with romanization, it was too hard for me to still understand hangeul. However, when I started with their alphabets first, then things becomes easier.

@LadyDuck I would like to be a translator too. I am thinking that learning a foreign language will open doors for me for more opportunities. How was your experienced being a translator? I think I should do what you did once I finished my graduate study.

I studied Spanish and Nihonggo in high school but got nowhere near oral fluency. I would like to take Spanish again and hopefully learn Italian and French as well.

@almostoveryou I wish the high school curriculum will include foreign language subjects too. I have seen some people who love it very much to study a foreign language just like us.

@annierose I think more private schools in the Philippines will now offer foreign languages in Senior High. That's a good start. In my case, I attended a school that combines traditional and progressive education. Our teachers were always experimenting with ways to improve our learning and skills.

@nangayo Are you working in an office? I work as a teacher and sometimes 8 hours is not enough for me to do so many tasks given to us. Anyway, I hope you can find time to do what you love.
