Three teenagers were caught by police with the gourds, well 1 gourd and 48 pumpkins, in Maryland Heights, Mo. recently. Pumpkins began vanishing from porches around the St. Louis suburb and police tracked down the Halloween loot in the teens SUV. The van was filled to the top with potential Jack o Lanterns when the police caught up with the vandals.
Two 18-year-olds are charged with misdemeanor stealing, while a 16-year-old has been referred to juvenile court. I guess their "Mischief Night" turned into a night of horror. The photo shows the pumpkin lineup!!!
Have you ever had a pumpkin, your house or car vandalizied on this informal holiday?

The Halloween trick or treating is wonderful for the kids. Great fun with children and their parents going from house to house to receive a treat. Unfortunately, this pre-Halloween mischief can be worrisome to those who decorate for the occasion.

Fortunately, Halloween here ( a holiday that is new here) is mostly for kids.

@dgobucks226 It is. Yet I´d stop vandals from doing mischief.

It is a wonderful kids holiday! They get so excited to receive different treats as they go from house to house in our neighborhood.

@marguicha In my neighborhood the police are very good. They have curfews and a set time to trick or treat. Very organized.

The tradition is to do this the night before Halloween. Kids go out and cause minor mischief like soaping up car windows.

Never heard of that one before and I suppose people must hide their cars if they can to avoid any mishaps.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Yes, you do not want to have your car parked on the street on that night

Kids can be very foolish at times and not realize the consequences of their actions. Most everyone has done something foolish in their life, but this type of activity is pretty stupid.
Stealing others property is just dumb and apparently costly for the teens...

@dgobucks226 I suppose it's a fairly mild prank, but still. Some people have too much time on their hands.

Wow, just what were they going to do with those pumpkins? That is pretty mean that they stole them from people's porches. I just remember one year on my parent's street, someone threw jack o' lanterns from our culdesac into the street - one of them was ours. Luckily Halloween was over - but it must've happened well after trick or treating time.

@dgobucks226 They should punish them by giving them community service . . . like having them bake a bunch of pumpkin pies out of those pumpkins that they stole - and handing them out to those in need of food in the community!

@much2say You know, that is such a good suggestion! The two 18 year-olds are considered adults they probably will be in trouble.

It is mischief that some have taken to an out of control level.

I don't celebrate Halloween, so no. But I think if there's a compilation of stories about Halloween mischiefs and pranks it's going to be a thick book. Only on MyLot I've read many stories about things happening this Halloween.

So far pumpkins have been safe sitting on porches in my neighborhood. It's crazy how teenagers think mischief doesn't come with consequences.

Our police department is pretty good where I live. They patrol on this Mischief Night and enforce a curfew.

The pumpkin stealing is going to far. Some teens just don't think about the consequences.

Considering the trouble they put themselves in, I think it was a bad tradeoff!
