A roundabout discussion

Would you believe I’m stuck for a discussion? Well, not really. It’s more that I’m a bit lazy. So I thought I’d put up one of my roundabout photos. While we were travelling in France, we had a right-hand drive motor- home but also had to drive on the right which was foreign to us as in Australia we drive on the left. . Driving on the right made it easy to take photos of any decorations that may have been added to the centre of the roundabout. Being the passenger, I was on the inside and it was easy to take a photo through the window. If there was no traffic, Vince might need to drive round twice for me to get a good photo but other times I had to snap quickly before we turned off and went on our way. Many of the roundabouts had centres that related to the town. If the Tour de France went through an area, there would be a number of roundabouts featuring bikes and bike-riders. This one was in a seaside town and made a colourful entry statement.

I wouldn't have known it was a roundabout if you hadn't said. They've been quite creative.

Many of my roundabout photos have a blue sign with a white arrow pointing the way and/or else my arm and the rearview mirror in the right-hand corner!

I think they are awesome and wish they would do those here.

Apparently each town/region gets funding if they put in roundabouts so they are all over the place. In my opinion they do make the traffic flow more smoothly.

We don't have roundabouts here. They look scary. However, it looks pretty!

@JudyEv I would want to practice on one in a small town.

@1hopefulman That might be a good idea. The ones with double lanes sometimes get confusing.

They do help keep the traffic moving. I guess everyone finds them a bit tricky for a start.

Now that you mentioned Tour de France, I am reminded of how I miss cycling.

@JudyEv We have designated lanes just for the bikes in this city. Our city is getting known as the capital bike city of the Philippines. My family is into cycling and we have bikes as expensive as the ones in the Tour de France.

@toniganzon Wow! Do you worry about your lovely bikes getting stolen? My nephew had his nice bike stolen so next time he bought a second-hand beat-up one.

Cycling is very popular in France. They were everywhere and some roads had designated lanes just for bikes.

Keep left, excellent advice. Dunno how the other lot manage, driving on the wrong side of the road.

That was my mantra when we were in France - keep right, keep right.

@pgntwo We didn't have much trouble while we were in France but had almost as much once we came back to Ireland and had to drive on the left again.

Wow, we don't have such interesting roundabouts. I had trouble going around one in Australia. I didn't have trouble driving on the left until I hit that roundabout. Luckily there wasn't much traffic

People thought we'd have trouble too being on the 'wrong' side of the road but the roads all lead you into the roundabout in the correct direction. Turning left was trickier because we'd want to turn onto the left-hand side of the road but of course, it needed to be the right-hand side.

@JudyEv Yes and we had to get used to right turns.

They seem to work well here although I know many people don't like them.

I do not like roundabouts at all. They are hard to figure out which way to go.

We didn't have any trouble with them but I guess we're used to them in Australia. Most lead you the way you're supposed to go making it hard to go the wrong way.

They do don't they? I'm always checking out my photos - or I take photos of things I think I can write about.

When I was in England, we almost hit a lorry head on because we forgot that we were supposed to be on the left. Scary.

It really takes concentration. Mind you, many of the roads we travelled were only one lane anyway and very narrow lanes at that!

We drive on the right hand side, in the U.S. As the passenger, I would get most of the photos while traveling. I enjoy your photos:)

I can't get photos of roundabouts in Australia as I'd have to shoot across Vince and it just doesn't work.

It would make a lovely play house. It's a wonder some child hasn't taken up residence there.

they are doing that here in spain also... some of the designs are very clever...there is one near where I live that has a small herd of metal art goats grazing on the middle of it...
