Why do people lie?

Shoot the first stone who never told a lie, haha! Unfortunately for some people... Lying is something as natural and "automatic" as breathing. Of course not all people lie compulsively, but still, they have their own motives for lying. What would be your reason for it?

I was 13 when I decided there was no purpose in lying. If I was going to get in trouble I'd just take my lumps, so to speak. I'd only lie if it were to save someone else's life.

Is lying forbidden in the ten commandments? If it is not, is it therefore a sin? If it is not a sin, are we we allowed to lie? Have I lied? Yes. Why? Because somebody said something and I didn;t negate It. Therefore, I lied, too. Perhaps not telling the whole truth, or lying, or keeping quiet, isn't good, but at the moment it was done, it seemed it was the only recourse. Sigh.

Lying is not natural to me, it depends on the situation. To save myself or to get rid of something

I know someone who is very good in telling lies. as if it is very normal to him to tell a lie. And i don'tn like him for doing it. Actually, i hate him because he is really a big liar. For me, i tell a lie to make others happy or sometimes not to hurt their feelings.

Sometimes I feel people lie because they started doing it and cannot stop. Also maybe they do not think they are ok so have to lie to make themself better than they are so they start to lie.
