Balding men, why don't they shave the sides?

Why do some bald or almost bald men don't shave the hair on the sides of the head? Completely bald looks bad-ass, but those hair right and left makes them look like Bozo, the clown.

I guess they must think some hair is better than no hair.

The problem is that without shaving it completely the contrast between the shaved and not shaved areas make them look bald.

@ourlot I guess some would think so, my hubby has a full head of hair so thankfully I don't have to deal with that.

If the hair it is trimmed, they do not look like clowns, but I do not like when the side hair are kept long.

May be they take it as a fashion. But i like them shaved.
