Simple solutions are the best and can take complex ideas to keep things simple.

For every problem, there are many solutions, some simple, others too complicated.
If it rains, do you wait until the rain stops before getting out and driving to the supermarket?
You can drive in the rain so that is not an issue only it is a real problem if your car has no windshield. Simple enough, so they invented the windshield and windshield wipers for when it rains. Simple solutions to every day problems.
If you have a pencil in your pocket but it's point breaks off, you can't write with it.
Or you can carry a handy little pencil sharpener along with that pencil and then the problem is solved.
You might have a mechanical pencil that uses lead inserts. The mechanical pencil put an end to the need to use a pencil sharpener, but then you eventually run out of lead refills. You have to carry the extra leads along with you to replace one as needed.
The cost of a mechanical pencil and it's pack of lead refills can cost you a lot of money and the many types of leads are various and each package comes with a different thickness, density and makeup. So which lead refills do you want to use that are similar to the basic wood pencil with no. 2 lead?
See how complicated it gets? The library provides 3 inch lead pencils - no. 2 lead and they are actually less than half the regular length of a student's no. 2 pencil.
The no. 2 pencil has a built-in metal enclosed pink eraser head that will eventually wear down and so they came up with those pink pearl erasers and also those eraser tips that actually fit over the top of the end of the pencil to replace a worn away eraser. They make so many different types of regular pencils, and mechanical pencils that it is hard to decide what to buy.
As for ink pens, there are the ones called the ball point pen, that come in red, blue and black most often and either have a retractable point or a permanent point and a pen cap designed to fit over the pen point end and designed also secondly to fit in your shirt pocket. then of course you must buy a pocket protector to keep those pens from digging into the shirt and creating worn out areas or tears and if your shirt pocket is not long enough for the full length of an ordinary ball point pen or pencil with a pocket clip for the shirt pocket, you will put a hole in the bottom of the shirt pocket.
They come up with solutions to these. They provide a day runner or day timer that has a loop in the binder to slip a pen and or pencil inside and also provide a good amount of blank paper, some on a pad, some go on the many rings of the binder as loose leaf pages and they come in many sizes. They are basically bulky and take up room in one's purse or brief case. Many people will carry a day organizer in their shoulder or back pack, which has been designed with students of colleges and public schools a place for their text books, notebooks, and extra pens, pencils and even a laptop or a tablet. Now people can carry their laptop or tablet in a backpack and head over to Starbucks for a Cappuccino and take out their mobile device with touch screen and not even have to use a pen or pencil to tap on the screen to draw, write, or text someone.
The newspaper is a very good invention but it uses lots of trees and millions of gallons of black and colored inks. That is a problem and the solution of course is the internet.
So when we use common sense we can find simple solutions to make life easier and less costly but it actually takes complex digital data science and digital media to make it simple for us.
I once owned a solar powered clock pen bought from a Radio Shack but you have to get such a pen from other sources as the link below suggests.

I'm pretty solution-oriented, in general. And I couldn't have done my YouTube posts without the internet. Nor met people from around the world and had daily discussions with them. But I'm still ambivanent aout getting "news" from the internet. Too much fake news and bogus "spin."

I think in many cases the solution is all about creativity. You can have more than one solution to a problem, but the best solution is often the most creative one.

I think it all depends on the way we see things.

We can make a mountain out of a mole hill so to speak and look for complex solutions to a problem or start with the easy solutions first, the simple solutions. Sometimes it takes looking at things more than one way or the other and attempt at finding solutions both simple and complex until we find just the right solution to use. Trial and error is always used. Mistakes can be made in due course but sooner or later a final answer comes to mind and the problem is solved. The saying goes, Two heads are better than one, but not when they come from opposing political parties, and that is about what it is like in government and will be until the end of time. But we all agree that certain things, mechanical, chemical, mathematical and scientific and for this reason opposing parties can find common ground to agree on solutions that make both parties happy. Scientists often agree to disagree as well as chefs, the local media. Opinions are what keep solutions from being found because opinions stop you from looking farther down the line to a proper solution to many problems.
