Can too little Random Access Memory in your computer make your browser crash?

I am running with only 6 gigs of Ram in my computer. I have room to upgrade.
The reason I am asking this question is because just yesterday, after a Windows 10 upgrade, I was online and browsing using my favorite internet web browser, SeaMonkey and that browser crashed. I reopened it and closed an open tab, as I run the browser with approx. 14 open tabs 24/7. Is having all those open tabs a problem? I haven't really had a crashed browser issue for months until just yesterday, after a Windows 10 update. I am a Windows Insider and get some of the builds also, so that might be relevant to this issue as well.
I have been reluctant to try to install a 4 gig chip because another 4 gig chip was fried during a power surge, when the power turned back on after a storm caused a blackout that lasted about an hour.
The system was still plugged in and the surge protector should have done it's job, but after I discovered the system worked only when I found and removed the fried 4 gig chip, I realize that there might be a problem at the point of chip insertion. On the motherboard itself, perhaps a circuit on the mother board is also damaged although I have been running my system on only 6 remaining gigs of ram.
What I a asking is, should I go get another new 4 gig ram chip and put it in and risk it? Is there any possible risk to just trying to do this with a new chip?
Just want to get some feed back from a tech savvy person who has experience with replacing RAM chips in a desktop computer system.

I don't think that the ram is the cause, browser crash may be due to other apps

That is a relief. I don't really want to invest more money in my old computer, as they came up with a solid state drive with intel i7 Pentium processor and plenty more RAM than even my computer can be upgraded to as 16 Gigs is the highest it can go and it isn't all that new any more. I will have to get a new PC within the next 2 to 3 years most likely.
