I got a surprising call from the office yesterday telling me I hadn't paid my rent. I could have sworn I did, as I pay all my bills as soon as I get my SS check in my account on the third Wednesday of the month. So while I was on the phone with her, I went to my bank to find out what happened, and no, I hadn't paid it. And with her on the phone, got it taken care of.
Then I went looking back at my bills paid out last month and found I did pay out the amount for the rent - to the Utility company. They got TWO payments last month. The good news is I shouldn't need to pay a utility bill this month. I called the office and told her what happened and we both had a good laugh.
She was being extra kind, as she is not charging me the late payment charge.
Next week I'll be paying bills again. I'm going to be extra careful I pay the right bills to the right people.

probably have but can't recall when. for a few years i have had to rely on my adult kids to do some bills so i could have had them charge me twice with out knowing.

@just4him i pay them, i just have to make sure in some cases they deliver the money. like rent. i have to have my daughter go take out my share and put with her share to deliver to landlord. thats how the rent went unpaid too late and got in arears and i did not know until we were served. i try and keep close check on her now. she is not good with money and has ruined both our credit

Oh yes I have, I used to mail payments, now I pay them online and there is less chance of error.

@just4him With online payments before you give the bank the okay you see a list of the payments, a double payment would show up.

I have done it before many years ago. I gave my electric bill money to the phone company. Didn't notice until the power got shut off. Never made that mistake again.

No I have never done that before. We get our SS on the second Wednesday of the month. Today and we paided all the bills we had and saved back the money for the ones that have not came in yet.
At least you got it paid with no late charge.

Never happened to me, but glad you managed to settle the rental payment. At least you wouldn't have to worry about the utility payment until the next time it's due.

Oh, I'm sure I have. I've done one of just about every bill paying error, lol. Mix up envelopes, etc. One mistake I've never made is paying the rent twice, heh heh. It's nice you didn't have to pay the late charge.Landlords often give a break if you have a good record, I've found.

It is good they did that. I haven't been late yet, though I almost was a few months ago when I suddenly thought I hadn't paid the rent, and asked in the office and sure enough, I hadn't. I happened to have a check on me to pay the rent with.

Nope, but we overlooked our water bill a few months back and ended up paying an $11.00 late fee:( This jogged our memory, the next month!
