Yes we'll come across some folks who are like a just think of the most annoying thing ever, and that's basically how some will behavior. Not saying that all are ignorant but there are some which will never understand or show any line of thinking. What makes so many become so disconnected? Desperation could be the reason but "the main" reasons include competition. Oh yes, competition can lead a lot of folks down the wrong path, some will lose all their sense because of feeling the need to compete.
Perhaps some are just saying some of the most ignorant things but there are some very aware of what they're saying but are simply trying to annoy whom ever they're trying to annoy. We'll all have to deal with some annoy folks some ignorant beings. Some which not only display ignorance but become so destructive that they're unable to come out of the dark. Unfortunately there are so many who continue to be knuckleheads. For some they're only aware of how to try to cause havoc. There are some good ones although not easy to find. That's if any are looking for the good ones. Unfortunately there will be some who will be harassed over and over. Pretty much says where their positions are. If they're constantly coming after one person then the person is going up! "Smile"

I think it's safer to say (to myself or within earshot) with authenticity and gentleness, "I wish you well in life. I wish you hope and goodness in life." Some will not take your goodwill-wishes for them in good faith and brand you/me, "abusive and rude!" for wishing everyone wellness and happiness. Oh, well... like you said: "knuckleheads'.
