Seeing more security guards in stores?

I was in my local Trader Joe's store on Monday this week and, for the first time, there was a uniformed security guard standing inside the store. I was back there later in the week and again, there was a guard. Both times, the guard was apparently unarmed.
Now I wonder if they were being shoplifted too much and hired the guard service as a deterrent or if they were reacting to some threat made to the store.
Perhaps, with all the shootings taking place in the US, stores are being cautious.
So, I wondered if anyone else was noticing guards in new places recently?

Most of these rent-a-cops are not, but armed can be arranged too.

@JamesHxstatic One of the security guards is gray haired and looks comfy more than threatening if you know what I mean?

@sallypup Yes, lots of retired guys get hired for those jobs, but some are ex-military so know how to be watchful.

I just got back from Trader Joe's. I didn't see any security guards. Of course, it could be that they were there and I didn't notice them.

I guess security around the stores are now beefed up, due to shooting incidents in succession over there.

I haven't but not surprised. A reflection of today's realities.

I recall seeing armed guards outside jewelry stores in LA years ago.

@JamesHxstatic Yes and they made me see them respectful for doing their job very good! Here police are sensitive only one resident repports someone they ran like it`s an emergency even if the complaint was only that the neighbor are so noisy after 10pm

Yes, I've noticed it more and more over the last year or so. We even have security guards stationed in many of our municipal buildings now (I work for the city and we have a security guard now at our building).

They seem to have disappeared since the holidays. I am not used to seeing guards around so much.

James, did they come back. They are there for your security and you get used to them. I feel very safe with security around me.

Maybe that could be it, but this store has never had a guard around.
