Cooking lets the child experience a lot of motor and sensory activities that helps their holistic development. And it’s also a great way to start teaching them to be independent.

Back in the day we knew how to cook by the time we were at least 10, and I think it was a Good thing. Now there are so many that do not know how to cook much and especially boys, and it is Sad. I enjoy from time to time watching some of the cooking shows with kids in them. Quite interesting to see what they come up with and people say is actually really good.

I didn't see any problem in that, children should be encouraged to cook

If you watch them, the kitchen is an amazing place to spend time with children. they get to learn and feel like they are helping out. Sure more messes are created, but the meal isn't that great if there wasn't a mess to create it!

Actually I'm watching the Masterchef Jr, and I just love these kids cooking with passion.

I think it is good for the children to learn and have fun in the kitchen. Children like cooking because they think it is something very funny. And they should learn how to cook sooner or later as they will grow up and to be independent one day. Of course sooner is better.

I would want my little one to learn cooking too in a few years (she is only one year now). It’s a fun and productive way to let children spend their time. Of course provided that all the safety measures have been taken care of. Having children around the oven, electricity and gas could be very dangerous if not supervised well.

I use to cook for my parents when I was still in school as my mom and dad worked. When my daughter had children they both were boys but loved to help my husband cook. I use to do all the cooking growing up and then when I was married. When my husband lost his job and was home all the time he did all the cooking and still does most of it now that we are retired.
When my grandsons came a long one of them was always interested in watching "poppo" cook and now that he is in high school he is taking cooking and wants to go to culinary college and become a chef. He works part time in a restaurant and loves it. He just turned 17.

I think it is very important to include children in cooking. This makes them more aware of what they are eating and has shown to help them pick healthier options when out eating or at a friends house. It is a skill that everyone should know how to do as well. The kitchen is the heart of almost every home anyway.

I think, that actually it would be a great idea.Anyway, there is much time, what parents and children are spending separately(parents with their business, children playing) etc.so why not to do something useful and spend time in the kitchen? So,this way, children can be part of the cooking too, doing little things in the kitchen.

I love cooking with my kids. When my oldest was almost 2 and my middle daughter was a few months old... I started a daily baking for the holidays. Mind you, my oldest wasn't gaining weight and wasn't even 20 lbs. Dr said to start feeding her cookies!
I got yelled at by someone for feeding her cookies and baking with her.
It's all about common sense and safety. They can learn some much by spooning out cookies and decorating. They were never around the stove etc.
Now they are about to turn 7 and 5... and can plan dinners better than most adults.in fact they both get to handle dinner plans one night a week.:)
I have a whole blog for it as a scrapbook so to speak!
