What has been your Attitude at Workplace?

I think most here have been working for others with few self-employed. The attitude and approach then towards work life tend to differ. When we work for others we are not in control of our work schedule while when we are our own boss we decide what is best and how to go about it. Sometimes, I had to compromise to be a team player as I could not say no except on issues that I did not budge as they impinged on my integrity and principles. I started work at executive positions after qualifying as a professional accountant. That meant I had to be responsible for the function of Finance and Accounting. It involved dealing with colleagues who were function heads, bankers, auditors and government. I was reporting to CEO but that person went by my input in my area of specialization. So the buck stopped with me and I had to face the consequences of my decisions. My approach was to give total involvement and then accept the outcome. I made sure I did my best and then that by itself was my internal reward though external was not in my hands. I had to work for a living all my life but I did not wish to worry about my job security. To a great extent my colleagues and superiors knew where I came from and accepted my approach. That proved a stress reliever and I did not waver in the way I carried myself. My main focus was to give inputs so that my employer benefited in every way. It was total involvement and the satisfaction therefrom gives a smile every time I think about it. What is your take on your work attitude and how did you face the uncertainties of work life? Image: Workplace

Been a long time since I worked outside of the home. I do remember I always worked at places where everyone felt like one big happy family.

Then work is a cakewalk; half the battle won. At most places I faced internal issues than external. Some did not want to pull their weight, proved stumbling blocks, and when told to get their act together they resisted - siva

Throughout the total of ten years that I worked with government, my main focus was on one day working for myself. And I realized that dream.

You should have planned it well and pursued your passion. I did try to work for myself though half-heartedly but I rather went with working for others - siva

I worked my last twenty years for one who never considered me as an employee. Okay I got paid by him but other than that it was on equal footing though he took major decisions. I am not boastful but I took almost all the load off him - siva

Doing the best we can no matter what the situation seems important to many.

That is my philosophy too. Do the best and accept the outcome. Doing the best rest on us but the outcome may be different from what we worked for - siva

I only worked in a office for about 2 years. After I married, I have always worked with my husband who was self employed. Of course when you work for yourself, you do the best you can.

You have mentioned about that. Nothing like being self-employed as our true worth gets reflected and we have total freedom than being told what to do. Thankfully, during the last twenty over years I was working for one who gave me a free hand. He trusted me fully and we could read each other's mind. He passed on six years ago but he still lives in my mind every day - siva

Whatever employment we were in we gave our best and were loyal to our bosses. We were self-employed only for a short time but it didn't work out.

That is the way to go and I did the same. Work is worship - is my mantra and that gives fulfillment and a smooth ride. The main issue when I tried self-employment was others problems become mine and I was going after them to get their house in order. Then it dawned upon me that I was not cut out for that pursuit - siva
