After his time in the U.S. Army 21-year-old Jimi Hendrix moved to New York City to start a solo career in 1964. He was finally recognize two years later by British manager/producer Chas Chandler who had been a former member of the group The Animals. In 1966 Hendrix moved to England and formed The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Their first U.K. hit was “Hey Joe”. Ten days later on December 26, 1966 Hendrix wrote “Purple Haze” which is the song that gave him the chance to be recognized in the U.S.
He wrote the song’s famous lyrics in a backstage dressing room at the Uppercut Club in London. The song highlighted his incredible talent as an electric guitarist. It was released as a single in the U.S. and was included in The Jimi Hendrix Experience debut album Are You Experienced in June 1967. Then Hendrix’s legendary, electric guitar burning performance at the Monterey Pop Festival made him into a star. In 2004 Rolling Stone magazine ranked “Purple Haze” at number 17 on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Thanks for sharing. That was very interesting, because I never knew he formed a band in England.

@misunderstood_zombie that was interesting to me too. I would have thought he formed the band in NYC but no across the ocean in England.
