Stumping the squirrels!

Stumping these clever furry bandits is no easy task. It does provide some acrobatic entertainment though. One or more of them had easily figured out how to gain access to my suet feeders hanging just outside the window at the breakfast table. I wondered if a "baffle" like the dome red rain shelter from my hummingbird feeder would baffle these bozos. It worked so far. Eating breakfast this morning, we were entertained by this one who had no trouble getting to the feeders, but could not hang over the side of the red dome far enough to reach the good stuff. He tried for about 15 minutes, then gave up. I know he will try again. The light was very poor, but I had to get some photos of the antics.

I think fighting with squirrels was one of the last coherent times that my Mom had. I love your photo.

Thank you! I hope to remain coherent for some years, if the little buggers don't drive me to more drink.

@sallypup My mom was the same way for a long time. Then one day she had an attitude adjustment and decided life without squirrels would be boring indeed. From then on she made sure the squirrles not only had food (usually peanut butter) but that they had to puzzle out how to get to it if they wanted it bad enough. We spent many wonderful mornings at her little kitchen table watching the battle between the mocking birds, squirrels and the local tom cat. That poor cat never won, lol.

They are busy this winter. I have a family of three in my tree out back. Fun to watch them scamper and play along the limbs.

This time ,he could do nothing about it,but I think this agile rodent won't throw up the cards and he may make it- reach the good stuff next time .

@LadyDuck Yes, he hung upside down but the dome was slick and he knew he could not get to the food.

I wonder what solution he'll come up with next. And I wonder if you or him will win in the end.

That's why I don't have any bird feeders - we are over-run with squirrels. Good photo.

Ive never really lived in areas where squirrels were abundant. Closest i get is crows, strays and people.

By the way, I got your message, but cannot reply (it's this phone.) I hadn't heard of them, but checking them out is on my list as I try to get caught up. I'll definitely let you know.
