Hello to everyone and may you all be blessed with a wonderful and happy day. We have just returned from a short camping trip with my Son, daughter-in-law and the grandsons. The camping site is called "Tanglewood" which is a new place for us to visit. It was fabulous not to mention hectic with having three seasons in one day, frogs that scared the living daylights out of me, and a little heat stroke that made us sleep for a 16 hour stretch on arriving back home. The children loved their first adventure on the Bass fishing boat and Grandad and Papa were only too eager to entertain them with crab catching, pond fishing, rock tossing into the water, swimming in the small pool on site and of course the braai and outdoor eating delights that are different to home style. Do you ever take the children to new places as well? My medications are at last finished, since the spider bite. We have established that the spider must have been a "brown button spider" which to most people, are quite harmless - however to a person with allergies as mine, its a bit of a problem. "Brown button spiders: the symptoms occurring after a bite from one of the brown buttons are milder and tend to be restricted to the bite site, characterized by a local burning sensation which may spread to the surrounding tissue and lymph nodes. The bite site is more evident and often seen as a red macular spot or blanched area surrounded by a localised rash. The condition usually clears up within a day or two." or in my case 14 days due to my allergies. I have been warned that the next spider bite 'could' be fatal, and that is a frightening thought indeed. I thank everyone for the get well soon wishes - I still have two very swollen lymph glands, one under my chin and one at my ear. Hopefully, they will eventually subside and the misery and discomfort will be a thing of the past. Have a wonderful build-up to the end of 2017, and while preparing for a fresh start in the '18, wisely take note of the things you dont want to ever repeat again!

Would one of the things you won't want repeated in 2018 be going camping? Insect bites are the bane of those with sensitive skin. The insects seem to know whom to attack.

Are you able to carry an Epipen in case you are bitten again? My sister-in-law now has to carry two pens at all times in case she is bitten by a bee.

I am glad the allergies could be confined with medications. I have not been in touch with you. Sorry. Hope you have a great year ahead Lany. :)

Oh goodness, I understand you are concerned about the possibility of another bite. There is anything you can do to be safe during the night?

The camping trip sounds fun, but is that where you got the spider bite? So sorry you had such a bad reaction to it, and hope you never get another one. I hope you have a happy new year Lany.

I'm so sorry you got a spider bite. I'm glad it's subsiding and the medication helped. I did a lot of camping as a kid. My kids like camping. I'm glad you had a good time with your grandkids.

@Inlemay Thank you. I'm liking my new profile. I'm down 26 pounds this year and continuing with the diet I'm on that is working wonderfully. My next weigh in is on Friday to find out how much more I lost in 2017. I'm on the Whole30 diet and the weight is melting off.
