Sometimes it is really fun to be a teacher online. You can encounter so many funny moments with the online students. I am not judging them for having silly answers to certain questions. It is a learning process while having classes virtually. Let me share a cute answer from my low-level online student. We were talking about animals. The introduction of the lesson is to ask “Where does the tiger live?” I am a teacher that waits for an expected answer. That is, the tiger lives in forests or savannas. It turned out to be a different answer. "Tigers live in the zoo." I rest my case by explaining it. “Do we need to re-educate the children about this?” “What is your take on this concern?” Image Credit: pixabay.com

Somehow the cute and adorable answer of the kid bears a very deep message indeed... That the animals aren't supposed to be kept in a zoo but rather in the wild where they belong.... It's nice of you to bring it up

It was a striking answer from a child. If we take time thinking beyond his answer, an innocent statement will trigger the awareness to save the wild animals and not supposed to keep in the zoo.

@Shavkat so true.... It is quite intriguing how the innocence of a sweet child can make us reevaluate the humanity aspect of ourselves

@Rationalwriter That's a shaming moment. But I think it is not too late to re-educate the children about the reality of life.

May I ask what do you teach online? I think we always have to encourage kids to doubt everything they see and looking for food insights over different Issues. And let me say this image is pretty sad, since these Animals wanting to be Free and not to be closed in Cages.

I teach the English language online. The lessons vary from one student to another. I do think that we need to educate kiddies to know what is right and wrong.

I think children should be taught about where animals come from, the different species and what their natural habitat is. Otherwise, these children will grow up and as adults, they might not have any respect or appreciation for the natural habitats of wildlife. Talking about how the modern world influences children I remember my mom telling this story. She and my dad were out in the country in New York state and friends took them to a farm. There were other visitors and one family had a small boy. The farmer's wife thought it would be a treat fro the boy so she poured him a glass of milk fresh from the cow. The little boy refused to drink it he said that he only drank the kind of milk that came from the supermarket.

I had pulled up the strings to explain the real home for this wild animal. It was quite confusing at first, but I had shown him some photos and where do they really live in. It seems like children need to be oriented and know the importance of knowing the natural habitats of the other wild animals.

That is an innocent answer. The kid ever seen the wild animals at zoo. But education of common things in nature and house hold is very urgent. Many kids doesn't know how yogurt built from milk.

i guess that is where your pupils see the tiger--- in the zoo. then it should be clearly explained to them that tigers are inherent wild animals; ergo, they live in the wild.

@Shavkat When I was still a kid I was always keen to go to the zoo. I think that most children find this to be very fun. I now hate the zoo. It is so sad to see those animals in captivity

I agree. The child is living in a big city. It seems that the zoo was his favorite place to go.

@Nawsheen I do agree with you. In fact, we don't have a zoo in my city. We need to travel 5 to 6 hours by bus going to the capital of my country. As far as I could remember, I had been there twice.lol Thus, the children in my city know that wild animals are living in the mountains. Since we were living in the highland area of my country.

Yes, you should explain that the zoo is not the best place where to place the wild animals, they are caged like men in jail.

Children come up with some strange answers sometimes but then so do some adults. It depends what sort of a life they have led. Some don't get the chance to learn a lot of things.

Children are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. If there is anything that should be re-evaluated it would be our education system (especially the public school). It was develop for the industrial revolution of the 18th-19th century and very much outdated.

You have a point.I think the people-in-charge in the education department needs to consider the real facts about something and should be in full details.

@josie_ I guess my major is not obsolete yet. I took my major 5 years in university. I think the students need to have some special training to enhance their existing skills.

@Shavkat _With technology advancing at a rapid pace, a college course that prepares a student for a future 5 or more years from now may find the course already obsolete and the newly graduate without a job opportunity.

Well if children only see the tigers and lions in zoos, they start to understand that the zoo is where they should be so it's an understandable error.

I would answer, "As far from me as possible!" Yes, you should explain the correct answer. (I promise I know where tigers really live.) If the student doesn't learn this from you, then when will he really learn it? Most people don't look up things they believe they already know.
