Good afternoon. I was thinking went my children were ins school learning. The first thing we bought was an set of encyclopedia Remember could not afford the whole set and bout book no .1 and start a collection.I loved it .They had wealth on information. This is around the nineties. Finally got the whole set.We did not have internet at that time. We sat down and look up any information that we need to complete the assignment.Whatever happened to Britannica are they still around? I know the set that we bought was not to expensive. anyone here remember this revolution. Before 1992 or earlier. share us your story.Thank ou Photo image online.

The books my late dad gave us are still all intact, not just Britanica but we have Americana, Junior encyclopedia ( my first set), popular science and the large set of " Great books oh the Western World" that is impossible to read in a lifetime, still useful today but availble on the net. I do not have the heart to get rid of them so we had a shelf built, just lying there togther with my children's pictures, awards, vintage and antique items I collected through the years. Yes the book sets were circa late 60s to early 70s

@amadeo yeah I check them out once in a while especially the year books that came wirh them, they gave us year books for a couple of years and all the important world events for the year were there. Popular science projects for kids are still very applicable.Great books of the western world do not go out of style, it has all the writings from Plato, Aristotle, to Shakespeare, Sigmund Freud etc... So many even classic books Those Britanica on your picture are blue? Ours were colored brown, probably because they were older versions.

@amadeo Some months ago, when I went to the library, it was nice to look through those encyclopedias. It brought back memories of how I studied as a kid way before the internet.

We had a set of encyclopedias but there weren't used a lot. Once the internet came in they weren't used at all.

Yes. I never had them but used them in school and at the library. I do have some older how to books, 1960`s and 1970`s, that I still refer back to sometimes. People depend on the internet, if the grid ever went down, people would be useless, unless you have paper books!

Before we got the internet around 1992 or 1995 we were given a huge set of these books for free. I love reading through them. Then we got a computer and it had all that information on a program which I think was called encarta so we had no need for the huge books sitting around taking up space. Now anything we want to find out we can find a website about.

My parents bought a set, the World Book Encyclopedias for their family. My Dad spent just as much time looking up information, as their four kids did. Our set was from the early 60s, so more recent historical facts weren't included. Soon they were outdated and I needed to go to a library when doing a research paper. Their information was correct, but not up to date. I really miss those days a lot!
