Golf vs Opel

I will probably in June by new car so I started earlier search market. I will probably buy Golf or Opel. So far I drive VW Polo manufactured 2000. with 260 000 km. Golf is expensive in start but parts are cheaper and doesn't have problems with rust. Opel has some problems with rust but many people say that their engines are better than Golfs. What do you drive and what is your recommendation from experience?

I have an Alfa Romeo 147, 2009 and a BMW 2013, I like both but I know you don't like Alfa My parents have an Opel and they like it a lot.

Most drivers in Croatia says Alfa is bad car. It's just for show up. I need reliable and trusted car since I work on multiplaces.

Mercedes is great car but it's expensive. Also part and service are also expensive.

@gaianoor We have bad streets too and I would like to drive Merceds but I can't afford it. Did you ever drive any Golf?
