Do You Know The Coldest U.S. Cities?

After the recent stretch of cold weather around the United States and in other parts of the world it got me to wondering what U.S. cities have it the worst.
Cities reporting wind chills of 50 below is unthinkable to me unless your living in Antartica or the North Pole. Even Santa Claus would have to think twice about Christmas Eve deliveries.
While nearly two weeks of freezing temperatures may have been new to some of us in the U.S., there are dozens of cities that spend more than half the year in sub 32-degree weather. A majority of these cities have record low temperatures below minus 45 degrees, and receive more than 60 inches of snow every year.
By using data provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) over a 30 year period, and using certain qualifiers like minimum population and coldest month average temperatures, here are the coldest city results.
From least cold to coldest:
10. Huron, South Dakota > Normal low in coldest month: 6.6° F Lowest temp. on record: -43° F
9. Marquette, Michigan Normal low in coldest month: 5.2° F Lowest temp. on record: -34° F
8. Bismarck, North Dakota Normal low in coldest month: 2.2° F Lowest temp. on record: -44° F
7. St. Cloud, Minnesota Normal low in coldest month: 1.8° F Lowest temp. on record: -43° F
6. Aberdeen, South Dakota Normal low in coldest month: 1.5° F Lowest temp. on record: -46° F
5. Duluth, Minnesota Normal low in coldest month: 1.5° F Lowest temp. on record: -39° F
4. Fargo, North Dakota Normal low in coldest month: 0.1° F Lowest temp. on record: -39° F
3. Williston, North Dakota Normal low in coldest month: 0.1° F Lowest temp. on record: -50° F
2. Grand Forks, North Dakota Normal low in coldest month: -3.1° F Lowest temp. on record: -43° F
1. Fairbanks, Alaska Normal low in coldest month: -16.9° F Lowest temp. on record: -66° F
There you have it! If you live in these cities or in the vicinity hats off to you, or in this case ski masks.

That is strange. With temps like that Fairbanks, Alaska may lose its #1 rank. And we may have to consider putting those Texas towns on our next year's list, ha.

It’s what you’re used to. One day (and thankfully only one day) it reached 55 in Honolulu...and the natives were shivering. (Hawaii’s weather is so unchanging that the Hawaiian language doesn’t have a word for it.)
Here, in Kentucky, it got to freezing today and there was a long line at the car wash to get the salt off the cars!

@dgobucks226 How hot is hot in your "Sunshine State" then? LOL
I am left to wonder how you all think you all have enough for helping other countries up on their feet. A nation facing hurricanes, floods, snow storms, forest fires, earthquakes and tornadoes on much larger scale than elsewhere.
If you all would not help us, our governments would be forced to take right steps. Sometimes not helping is real help.

In the United States we would say your getting Florida's colder weather. It is known as the "Sunshine State."

Yes, I guess you don't see temps like that in Australia. Although I bet those tennis players at the Australian Open are hoping for cool weather.

Our all-time lowest temperature was 24 years ago, -22. That happened after a 16-inch snowfall. Not a fun week.

OMG! I freak out when it is single digits with snow on the ground. Which has happened this past Dec into January. Jack Nicholson would be impressed (see photo)

Very true, Chicago is right off that lake and with their reputation as the "Windy City" the temps there in winter must be brutal. And Minnesota has a couple of cities on that top ten list.
