The Ice Princess must wear custom made coustumes for her figure skating competitions. No more off the rack outfits since she turned 5 years old. Here she is in the final stages of a fitting. $1000.00 and counting. Her matching gloves still have to be made. My poor son! I have had a few dresses and two fur coats custom made. My husband has had two tuxedos, a few dress shirts, four pairs of shoes, and a few suits made. My older son had his tuxedo, a vest, a few ties, several suits, and most of his dress shirts custom made. Have you had anything custom made?

My mother used to have my pants made when I was little, I am a short person and all the pants were always to long.

@allknowing Oh, yes! I'm positive. I offered to pay for her costumes and skates. Some of the girls wear $2500 to $3500 costumes.

That's a cheap costume. My son refuses to pay much more for her at her age. Isn't it crazy?

Yes. Most of the gowns I own are custom made. I remember my mother's clothes were all custom made. She went to a lot of parties. She and my dad, and it was the same for my dad's suit.

@DianneN In here, the famous designers don't sell their gowns. People go to them to have their gowns custom made.

Custom made is fun, but I still prefer getting designer made clothes and having them tailored to my body.

@amadeo . You always look dapper in your "off the rack" duds. That's because you have style. Not many people have that!

That is a lovely costume. Since it's custom made it's sure to be unique and help her stand out even more on the ice. :-) One of my belly dance costumes was custom made - we started with a basic style, then customized the colors and some options and measurements. It was done via internet - and the costume is beautiful , however it needed a lot of alterations - even with me sending them my measurements. My mom rescued it. The only other items I have that count as custom my mom made for me - some dresses, jumpers. I was particularly thrilled with the "skort" she came up with. :-)

Thank you! She must wear costumes that go with her performance and music. She's such a girly girl and loves glitter and glamour. Lol! Wow! I never realized that the internet could customize outfits. I'm sure your belly dancing outfits were so pretty. Lucky you to have a mom who could sew. I can't even thread my sewing machine! lol

@DianneN She sounds like a fun girl! :-) Oh yeah, - seems like a lot of the bellydance costumers are from out of country. Actually As I think on it now - one of the girls in my dance troupe sews and has made me some things, too. :-) My mom is fantastic at sewing. She hasn't felt like it for awhile though. I know how to do a few simple things, but she is brilliant. :-) Here's my custom costume

She's beautiful and so happy. Look at that. As to dress, I have it customized. But for blouses and jeans, they are bought ready made. It's more expensive to have customized clothes, though as for you, very affordable.

@DianneN Well, one way or another that knife was bound to end up in my possession, since no one else in the family is really interested in hunting or camping or any outdoorsy stuff. But I wouldn't have felt comfortable taking the knife knowing it could have been intended for someone else. So it was really nice to learn that it was indeed intended for my son.

Only my books, custom made by me. Her skating outfit is beautiful. Oh yes, I do sew, so I have made several dresses in the past and a couple I can still wear, and one that will fit even better in a few months. I made that one completely by hand. I didn't have a sewing machine at the time. Here it is.

@DianneN I wanted something new and didn't have a sewing machine. I was amazed at how long it took to do a single seam by hand. Those seams will never come apart for any reason. I guarantee it. I'm looking forward to wearing it again. Thank you. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it and seen the surprised looks when I tell them I made it by hand.

My father used to sew me my pants when he was still alive. He was a tailor and he taught me how to sew clothes. However, I let some dresses sewed by a dressmaker when I was in my home country. Btw, the dress is beautiful as well as your princess.

Awww, pretty! I've only had a dress made once . . . it was for my friend's wedding and she wanted us all to have matching forest green velvety off the shoulder A line dresses. I never got custom made figure skating dresses as I could get a stock dress and bead them up myself (I skated frugally as possible ).

@DianneN My friend's wedding was themed in forest green and black . . . I love that color too! I think I still have that dress somewhere - but I doubt I can still fit in it . In my time there were some moms who offered to bead and decorate dresses (for a price of course) . . . but since I worked for a clothing manufacturer before and knew how to fudge things as a designer, I just did it myself. I know how busy your daughter in law is . . . oh my gosh, would she have the time?

@LadyDuck I have a good one at home, and don't laugh, but an excellent Chinese tailor in Hong Kong. He lets me know when he's in New York City and is willing to make up anything. It's just a hassle to go back and forth to New York with the horrendous traffic.

Wow! I don't know what else to say. In our household, custom-made means I made it. So yes I have had several evening dresses and ball gowns custom made, as well as plenty of other things LOL. I've certainly never spent anywhere near $1000 on a garment! My partner is not into clothes at all, if it's a smart occasion he will try and find something that isn't a T-shirt. He wears a suit for work because he has to. Incidentally I'm sure this has been discussed before but in the UK a vest is underwear

She look cute and I supposed she is asserting her independence. A bit costly though. When I was working I had a lot of my outfit custom made...if a seamstress count. But I left the style and pattern up to her. The rest I bough in stores. Not very particular about clothes.
