Do you LOOK down when you type?

Torrington, Connecticut

Im sure the question itself is silly but I have noticed that when im on the keyboard typing I dont need to look down anymore to see where the letters are. I remember when I was younger that I would use learning software on how to become a better typer etc, and now here I am 15 years later typing away without needing to look down to see where the letters are on my keyboard Is this common or do I have some type of typing skills?

I think most people don't need to look at the keyboard, but I do. I was 73 before I tried typing, and I only use two fingers, so I am far from proficient.

@RasmaSandra Thank you, but my fingers are no longer supple enough to be able to use all of them. I'll have a look at that site though.

I do. I never did well in typing class. I guess I should say that I do look down at times and at other times I don't. Especially when I am in the middle of creative writing. I am too focused on the outcome to worry about keys.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX Good and thoughtful question. I'm not sure what to say. One had to do with a visit to Galveston, Texas that my hubby and I made years ago. That story stretched into a ghost story- the locale truthful, the rest fiction. Same with the last story: northern Minnesota and another mystery, this time I guess I'd call it relationships. Not sure if this answers your question or not. I write about people and places! Not science fiction though the one about Galveston turned into fantasy due to its being a ghost story.

I don't look down at the keys either. I can do multiple things at once while typing and hardly miss a word. I was the fastest typer in my class when I was in school, I still think to this day i am pretty good at it still.

I don't look at keyboard while typing. I've thought kids how to type so that increased my proficiency. I used to dream about the position of the keys.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX hand positioning and posture helps me. Sitting upright makes you not to hurt your spine and get tired quickly.

I took typing classes in high school @BACONSTRIPSXXX , so I don't need to look. But every now and again when I see some weird stuff, I look down and my hands aren't anywhere near the right keys.

Although I took typing lessons and won the faster typer award in high school, I still find myself looking at the keyboard at times. I think it's because I use so many different keyboards; my computer, laptop, iPad, and iPhone.

The question is not silly at all. There are times I do look down at the keys while typing and other times wait till finish and then correct my mistakes. Mostly I know how to type so do not need to look down.

No I never look down. If I am on a keyboard I am unfamiliar with I might though, because I could have my fingers on the wrong row or something.

I glance from time to time. I never learned the home keys by heart so my fingers pretty much operate based on muscle memory more than anything. I can type fast somehow. But not without errors. I think, yes, it is a special skill that you didn't have to look anymore. You'd be great at taking notes by dictation.

No, I don't need to either and haven't for many years now that I think about it. Lol. My kids are going to be taking a keyboard class soon so they will have the same skill set, in today's world you need to be able to use a computer.
