Carpenter looking for trouble

Last year, when I noticed my roof was leaking, I called a carpenter to fix it. I paid him money to buy new zinc sheets with the intention of paying him for workmanship after he's done the job. As I am writing, the carpenter has not fixed the roof. I have gone to his workshop several times to ask him to do it but he keeps playing rings around me. Yesterday was the last straw. When he saw me coming, he gathered his tools and told me to go home and wait for him, that he was going to bring the zinc to fix it. I waited and waited but he never came. As I am writing this, I am really angry. I don't know what reaction would be appropriate when I eventually see him again. Should I be harsh or violent? I have to control myself. I have decided he should not fix the roof again. I want him to give me back my money. I'll meet another carpenter. But I wonder if he can? It's more than a month now! He must have used it for himself. That is when I'll give him trouble. I've been mild and patient for long; it hasn't worked. Maybe he wants to see the other person. I am really torn. I want to control myself but this carpenter is calling me a fool.

I am sorry this happened to you. There are people that are honest in this world and those that are not. It is very frustrating when people say they will do something and lie to you.

For one thing there is no evidence that you handed him the money to buy sheets and sure as the sun would rise he burned your money already. Is there no proper venue in your country to settle these kinds of dispute? Being violent would go nowhere and he might turn the tables on you in court.

So, what do I do since it's evident that he doesn't want to do the job but to play me for a fool? That's why I wanted to share my feelings.

@mydanods go to the proper venue in you country to settle it ( I do not know your institutions), have him summoned by proper authorities, make an agreement in front of officials, if he still does not comply then file formal charges, that is if the amount is worth it.
