I really enjoyed the Superbowl on Sunday. I Stayed up till 3 am in England to watch it from America as it was that good a game. The NFL used to be on a lot on public broadcast TV in the 1980s here and had a decent following but went pay TV in the 1990s and lost some traction. But London has stolen some regular season games and we pack Wembley stadium out with 80,000 fans to enjoy the spectacle. We now get the big match live and one of those world events that we all need to enjoy.
New England were just favorites and this their 8th bowl in 16 years where as the Philadelphia Eagles had never won, alongside established teams the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions and two crappy expansion teams that have also not won it.
Coach Belichick has won five Bowls as coach of New England but they never really looked in control on Sunday as an open game saw both quarterbacks through huge yards. Five time Superbowl winner Tom Brady threw 350 yards and still lost after the Eagles pulled off that thrilling victory! Nick Foles was on it though for the Eagles at Q/B and summed up by a very bold play just before half time. Earlier the Patriots had played an unsuccessful trick play where an outfield player throws to the Q/B rather than vice versa, coach Doug Petersen of the Eagles calling the same play on fourth down one yard out as Burton Foles caught the ball in the endzone for a half-time lead. It was basically saying to Belichick you are in a game pal! It was such a slick, cheeky, cool and brave play to turn 3 perfunctory points on the drive to 7 points.
Second half kept the scoring going and very few punts in the game as teams went for it on the fourth downs instead of kicking for position. But at 33-38 Eagles, Brady took the only sack of the game in a near perfect game and the Eagles took three points and that was that. The Eagles had finally won it. New England had missed two extra points early on and so the final hail mary attempt from Brady would not have won the game anyway. The joint TV screens behind the goals in the impressive new stadium in Minnesota were clearly putting the kickers off and that will have to be changed. Foles would go on to make 500 yards in the game, OJ numbers

It was a great game! I live in a state where the Eagles are considered a "local" team so it was super exciting around here. I was so happy to see them start out scoring first and basically maintaining that lead the whole time. (except for a few minutes)
P.S. The Eagles' QB name is Nick Foles.

We normally watch the Super Bowl loosely each year as we are not big football fans. But this year my son had a playdate while the other boy's family had a Super Bowl party . . . I ended up watching the game and it was quite exciting! I had no preference for teams, but I guess the Patriots had been winning them for a while now - and well, a lesson learned you can't win 'em all. Good for the Eagles - they certainly earned their win!

I saw some highlights of the game this morning, as I didn't watch it. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
