Eight deep needles for lower back pain

Back in May, I wrote about some persistent lower back pain that was cured in one acupuncture treatment with 22 short needles. Now, maybe due to strenuous sneezing and coughing for two weeks with a virus, I have had even worse lower back pain for a week and a half.
I called Rachel, the needle lady last Monday. Guess what? She was in Hawaii for the week. So I did stretches, used heat and ice, took pills and was miserable all week. I left a message Friday, hoping to get in today.
I got a call shortly after 9, no soap, no appointment until Thursday. So I said thanks and took a hot shower, Fortunately, my heard my phone ring and answered it. A cancellation, I could get in at 1 PM today.
So. there I was and Rachel quizzed me a bit then left the room while I got ready (down to my shorts and a towel, then came in and proceeded to stick about eight very long needles in a few spots. One felt like an electric shock. She left and I lay on my side there for the usual 20 minutes or so. If I moved my arms, one or two of the needles reacted uncomfortably; a deep breath did the same thing.
She came in, extracted the needles and showed them to me, each about four inches long, very thin.
I did not feel a lot better when I left, but am feeling quite a lot less pain now.
I hope it is gone tomorrow. I miss ping pong!
Have you ever had acupuncture? How was it?

@JamesHxstatic I am so glad you are feeling better. It seems that acupuncture works very well.

@LadyDuck It all depends on the person using the needles I think.

I could never bring myself to do acupuncture, but then again I don't care much for needles. I have had back surgery and the pain when it flares is no fun. I usually put my brace on and take an Ibuprofen, that helps to take the swelling down inside there.

You barely feel the needles going in and they rarely react the way a couple of mine did today.

@cintol That was a strange test. I was careful about moving after I felt the reaction of the needles. I suppose it was because they were deeper than usual.

@JamesHxstatic It isn't working all that well then, if you needed more.

@jaboUK It is not always an instant fix like it was last time. Physical therapy could take weeks with no assurance of success too.

I had another treament yesteday, was facedown on the table for forty minutes with I'm not sure how many needles this time. It seems better today.

My girlfriend does acupuncture to help her manage her pain/discomfort from Crohn's disease. She says it helps tremendously.

@JamesHxstatic She swears by acupuncture. If it works, that's great. If she thinks it works, that's great. Either way, it's great for her.

I haven't had it but I'd be happy to have it if it were suggested. I have a bad back from time to time, a legacy from an old injury, but it usually comes good after a few days. It does restrict what I'm willing to do or not do though.

I rarely have anything like this and it just annoys me no end to be restricted in my movements.

@JudyEv I really have no idea how I did this, perhaps sneezing and coughing a lot while I had that virus.

@JamesHxstatic When I'm 'good' I think I can do anything but the least little thing that is a bit too strenuous or whatever and my back immediately reminds me to go easy. Very frustrating.

My friend in China has an epileptic son who was cured by acupuncture after my friend gave up on all the western style medicine they were administering to the boy.

Hope it worked and you're pain free quickly. I never had acupuncture but I would consider it if I was in pain

It has worked quite well for me more than once. Rachel seems intuitive about what to do.

It all depends on the one who does it. Rachel seems to know exactly what to do.

I am for acupuncture too. My physical therapist is from England and she went to do a course in it and I was the first one she did it on. I find a way to keep injuring my lower back too and then it get better. I use heat on it.
