Cans

We had our yard guy come today and mow and - mostly - clean up the leaves in the yard. Among other things that he did, was put all the bags of cans in one place. I knew I had a good number of cans, but it kept raining and I didn't want to put the wet bags in the back of the car. However, even though we've had a few spotty rain bits, his moving them allowed them to dry. So, I loaded up the back of my car, SUV actually, and took them off to the recycling center. I had to wait for a bit while another customer got helped, but I was listening to the radio so I was happy enough to wait. You know it took multiple trips for me to get those bags in my car, the guy at the recycling center, took them all out at once - bigger hands no doubt. Anyway, I walked away with $9.90. Not bad since I would've drunk that many sodas anyway. I had some help - I mean, the wife drank many, a friend drank a few and then there were some V8 and tomato juice cans as well. All that in less time that it has taken me to make $4 here, but I'd've easily made more if I spent as much time here as I do drinking sodas.

You are lucky to be paid, we are not paid, but we are obliged to bring the cans in the right recycling bin, if not, we are fined.

@ElicBxn Not here, people try to avoid to pollute and they are very happy that the authorities take care that nobody pollute.

@ElicBxn And in America's political climate it could get them shot too.

I envy you your payment. I think it's a good incentive to make people to be environmentally conscious.

I'm sorry that you don't get paid, and I agree that it does make people more environmentally conscious. The guy who was ahead of me, was with some electrical business, he had a wood box that they took out of his truck with a fork lift and then some barrels with more wire looking stuff. The place I go also recycles a lot of other kinds of metal besides cans.

@ElicBxn That's about the only bit of comfort from my place burning down. The metal from it (and there is tons) is all recyclable and money is to be had from it.

I am waiting until we have $100 in cans and bottles before we take them to be recycled. At 10 cents per can and bottle it will not take that long.

I get paid by the pound, and I'd get more if I crushed them, because they'd take up less space and all, but I'm more interested in getting them out of the house than make more money - besides they weigh the same per can.
