Mistaken?

How would you feel if you are mistaken as somebody of the opposite sex? I sometimes have that problem because even some of my students, speaking in front of me, address me as SIR, and not MA’AM, maybe because I have the low-tone speaking voice. My name is a female name. My username is an anagram of my name and 3 letters of my surname. My profile picture is a branch of an orchid, so I believe it is understood that I am a female. I vehemently refuse to be addressed as a DUDE, even in this site. I recall about reading a response from the comment of a great woman of substance here, where she was mistaken as a ‘dude’ because her profile picture shows she wears a Havana hat,(or a fedora, I am not quite sure). Can you accept to be addressed as a dude if you are a female? I don’t.

I know who is "the great woman" you mention and she is perfectly right to get mad when users call her dude or guy. We are women and dude or guy is a lack of respect.

@LadyDuck that is why i would laugh if i would read a comment in any of your discussions that you are addressed as DUDE, which i believe i haven't yet.

No I am not a dude and do not want to be addressed as one. Since I am a female.

i don't really know if it is a Panama hat, a Havana hat, or fedora, as long as it is a hat. hehehe! but your profile picture is not of a hat but 4 question marks, and yes, i know you are a female.

When speaking on phone Especially with someone I do not know, they would address me as 'sir' until I mention my name. Of course I do not want to be addressed as dude nor sir.

@ridingbet Oh yes, my voice is so low. They say its very manly. I also cannot hit high notes but I am More confident in singing a man's song.

@rakski right on that. last Sunday when i and my sister attended mass, i sang the church'e hymns, and i can easily switch my singing voice from high-pitched to low. the "Ama Namin" had me singing like Marcelino Pomoy because i sang like a man then like a woman.

hahaha! me too. my voice is not so ladylike. in fact, it sounds so 'transgender-ish', so gay, a crying gay.

i felt offended. in some instances, i did comment back about that and the user just did not mind the comment. previously too, i responded and did not receive another response from that person again.
