I may have made a mistake

rain, mud, cat litter, wet, clay

We've got a LOT of rain right now, and my yard is quite muddy. The path back and forth to the back house is about an inch deep of mud, and I heard that sprinkling cat litter over a muddy yard helped to dry it up and add traction. It turns out that clumping cat litter isn't the best for this. I wish I had read that part before putting it all over the path. Now I have both mud and wet clay.

Yeah, it sure is. I just sent someone to the store for some pine cat litter, which is basically compressed sawdust. Hopefully that will help?

@spiderdust I hope it does because other wise your probably going to need a shovel to clear everything and start over with your path.

i have put the cursor in the image picture here in your discussion and i saw some words looking as if these are the tags. may i ask why your discussion has no tags? you can place those words like cat litter, mud, etc, in the box below the discussion box so your discussion can be posted in other discussions having the same tags like yours.

I think I typed my tags in the wrong window and attached them to the photo instead. Oops! I just fixed it so there will be tags.

I suppose this is one of the tips found online. If only people stopped to give wrong advice.

It is, although the fault is partially mine. I should have investigated further before trying it. Fortunately, the pine cat litter, which is made of compressed pine sawdust pellets, is doing what I needed it to do.

@spiderdust Sawdust is good to absorb water. I also tried some Internet tricks without investigating more and I had very bad results.

@LadyDuck The sawdust is working very well in the muddy area. I may get another bag to keep on hand in case it rains more this weekend.

At least it's not too horrible right now, the sawdust helped a lot. Of course now the dogs are tracking sawdust everywhere, but that's easily vacuumed.

Oh no! edit: I went to walmart and bought the square stepping stones. $1.35 each and they work well for my muddy spot.

I actually have some, but they've sunk into the ground! It's that wet right now.

I'm not sure where to get sawdust around here. Lowe's or Home Depot?

@spiderdust That would probably be your best bet, or if there is a lumber company near by try giving them a call. They may have a ton that they would give you, or sell you for a small fee. There was on in Oregon we just to get it from.

I'm trying to get it dealt with before clay gets tracked into the house.

Oh, it's incredibly funny. It was less funny at the time when I realized my grave error, but we survived.

How much cat litter did you sprinkle over the mud? That is too bad you have a mess now.

@spiderdust ok Kelli. Does the cat go outside? I hope the cat does not go to the bathroom there because the cat sees the litter there.

@Hannihar No, that hasn't been a problem so far.

I'm not sure... maybe a cup's worth of the clumping litter?
