I tend to write like I think the reader knows what I am talking about at times. I think I don't have to explain. I see that some other members do too. I am going to try to write more with my readers in mind. How about you?

I think all posts should stand alone and not require the reader to have read your previous posts.

i agree since, one, we come from all over the world and, two, someone might be coming across your post for the first time. you and @judyev are very good at stand-alone posts.

I do too. Or at least have a link to others on the same subject.

@hereandthere Thank you for the compliment. I just wrote that maybe I'm not so good at it.

My Hubby tells me the same when I am speaking to him - that I sometimes get ahead of myself and I assume he knows what I'm talking about . I like to think I try to write with all the essential details, but it's quite possible I'm missing some of them .

@JudyEv .....That's true. You forget what you've said where.

I think it is likely to happen when you write about something a lot - maybe a pet or whatever.

I think you are right and I'm probably guilty of that although I do try to give enough background information so people know what I'm talking about. And some things I think are 'known' tend to be only known in Australia and are double dutch to others.

I think it happens to all of us at some point. It's a good idea to provide more details in the post itself, however, leaving stuff out in the post leaves more to write/discuss in the comments.

Edit the post before posting it is a good rule.

My friend Juanita talks like that: leaving out names all the time so I don't know who or what she's talking about. I have to constantly tell her to start over, from the beginning, with proper nouns. It's especially confusing when she talks about one thing and then abruptly launches into another subject without warning. But I love her anyway.

It's okay when mylot members do this. I just ask questions. People complain if posts are to long but if you don't explain enough they will complain at not knowing what you are talking about. You just can't win so I just write how I want.

I try to do the same things and some times those from another country do not know what I am talking about.

@celticeagle Please don’t suck the fun out of life - I prefer being baffled rather than having to face reality.

I am very guilty of this. We should all start putting footnotes and such in our posts haha I try and explain things, but then my posts get super long.

Write whatever your mind tells you to. Those who would not understand will surely ask a question about the content of your writings. =)
