Are nightmares real or figment of our imagination

If dreams are the playback of our earlier activities, which I believe anyway, then where do horrified nightmares comes from.especially if we never saw a .horrified thing like that in.the day.What brings nightmares?

Nightmares are your anxieties. Remember when you thought everything had gone haywire? You play them out in nightmares.

@augusta123 The brain has imaginative ways of expressing anxieties and fears, my dear. We really don't understand how the brain works.

Pain can bring nightmares. Distress, anxiety, worry, and uncertainty. If anything emotional is bugging you, it can trigger nightmares. I've had lots for many reasons. Pain was the biggest though. The more it hurt, the more I'd get. I was crucified in a dream once... now that hurt! lol
