My Mother is Trying to Kill Me!

Not intentionally... but enough is enough! First it was giving me something with shrimp, which I can be allergic to. Then it was giving me something with sunflower seeds, which I am definitely allergic to. And today, she 'helped' me clean my sink with who knows what, but it created a poisonous gas (probably mixed bleach and ammonium together to form chlorine gas), and now I can't sleep (and I was so tired before) because I can hardly breathe! I've decided she is officially banned from my residence until she learns to not be destructive to my health and well-being! Seriously, I'm getting better, but I like knowing I will still be breathing when I wake up in the morning. Right now, I'm not sure if it is the chemicals or the anxiety which is making it harder on me to get a decent breath... Update! It was chlorine gas. After much confusing information, she hadn't used it for my dishes, but used a bleach cleaner (a very potent one) on my bathroom and in my toilet. The directions have a caution statement about being used in a closed space, and recommend having windows open, and cleaning it up right away. She left it there (and it sat for hours, saturating the house with fumes) and when I used the toilet later, it created chlorine gas (well, briefly before it was flushed). Strong smelling bleach cleaner and chlorine gas near my bedroom created the problem. I was right to open the door, but it was after I received a full dose for over an hour.

Wow, I sure hope you are ok, I know mixing some of those chemicals together can be deadly. Does she not know you are allergic to those foods? Yeah, I would keep her out for a little while until she understands but I am sure it wasn't intentional.

It wasn't, but she knows about the allergies but forgets. She can eat anything, so remembering that others can't isn't on her mind. I opened my door to the outside and left it open for a bit. I lost heat, but it sucked the chemicals out. Once I feel that I'm normal again, I will try to go to bed once again. I would sleep in the room where I am now, but I have nothing to sleep on! lol

@cintol If I can't sleep here, I might have to head into town and crash at my parents' place. Hopefully my mother doesn't target me when I'm there! lol For other reasons, I would rather sleep here in my own bed!

@OneOfMany I can understand that, I am allergic to tomatoes and people sometimes forget that when they invite us for dinner but my mom always remembers and tells others when they are around. lol Well thats a good thing that it sucked some of the smell out, my friend mixed vinegar and bleach together once, it was not a good smell at all either. Hope you can get some sleep soon

It's sad to know that there is a mother who harm her children. Though it's not my first time hearing about this, I still feel sad, because my impression to mothers are only good .

She's not doing it with the intent of causing harm, but her lack of recognizing pointed to dangers is what's bad. Still, if you tell someone to stop doing something, shouldn't they listen? Right now I'm mad that I'm not sleeping when I should be. Very slowly, I'm regaining the ability to take deep breaths again.

@OneOfMany ohh ok now I understand why, all I know she doesn't have issues about recognizing a person. Just try to understand her, maybe she doesn't intentionally harm you.

Yeah, it can have some pretty bad effects. I don't think it's the chlorine gas as much as it is a reaction from the chemical smell.

I think you should send your mother to her room until she can behave! I hope you're ok, maybe you should visit a doctor.

@OneOfMany I agree, better safe than sorry. Thankfully I don't have asthma or any allergies in my family.

Well, thankfully she's in her house. I just have to keep her out of mine! lol I might have asthma, which I have never looked into, because its breathing upsets are caused by the same things that get to me. It would be better to get looked at rather than wait until I have a seriously bad reaction. :D

@sprite1950 I don't think there is anyone that suffers asthma in my family. However, the other thing might be that it isn't my lungs but my brain. After I damaged the part that controls breathing, I couldn't breath normally for a long time. If I get stressed or anxiety, it will bring that back. However, I got super congested last night, suggesting that there was something else going on.

I even told her that I was washing my own dishes in the morning, and did not need her help in doing so. With my way, there was no strong, potent chemical smell and it didn't bother me. I have no idea what she used to make it smell that way! I know chlorine gas itself is odorless, but that strong smell is suspicious. -sigh- I should be 2 hours into a nice sleep cycle now, not suffering to get a deep breath in.

Oh my goodness!! Is your mother aware of your allergies? I have to agree with @jstory07 (62695) on this one. Don't let your mamma near you again! :-) PS...Open your windows and door to get the fresh air flowing again.

She knows about the sunflower seeds and said: "Just eat it anyway." She doesn't know what an allergy to food feels like, so she lacks compassion towards it. In her mind, it's picky eating. Now, she is a really nice person, but there are elements about her which ignores the fact that something really is unhealthy for certain people. A 'burning, swelling feeling' is not something a normal person would ignore.

@Starmaiden Fortunately my reactions aren't anything beyond 'painful' at this point, but still, things I want to avoid! Lamb is the only other food on that list, but how often do you get exposed to that? And meat allergies are not that common to begin with.

@OneOfMany Maybe ask her to do some research, get a better understanding of how dangerous food allergies can be. My brother's stepdaughter is allergic to peanuts. If she eats anything that has touched a peanut she goes into anaphylactic shock. A mother should be more discerning. Just sayin' :-)

Time to ban chlorine products from your home, as well as the allergenic foods. No wonder you have anxiety.

Does she know your allergic? Oh my! I hope you are safe. It is best to ask her what's in the food she's giving you. And it is better to remind her of your allergies. God bless.

She does, although for a long time, she would give me those anyway, because she was using it. Then would get mad when I didn't want to eat it. I eat pretty much anything, so I'm not sure why one thing would make her think I was being a picky eater...

@epiffanie The only problem in getting it checked is that in most of my cases, they can't figure it out, and then I have to on my own. So in this case, I'm trying to see what I can do first.

Now I have to figure out if my current shortness of breath is caused by the Chlorine gas (which couldn't have been much), Asthma (which I have never been diagnosed with), Acid Reflux Disease (which I know I have and brought on yesterday by eating chocolate, spicy foods and drinking soda), or Anxiety (which has always caused this problem in the past, and happens to be high because I'm currently thinking about all of the above!) Well, I came on here to share my worries. I doubt it was the Chlorine gas, because I never displayed all the other symptoms. That, and my eyes were never irritated, which is supposed to happen. Also, I was fine Monday and the first part of Tuesday, and then the breathing difficulties started to set in heavily yesterday afternoon, after eating the acid reflux causing foods. Plus, there's a lump in my throat, and that is a result of reflux. I don't have any chest pain, which the gas would have caused. Reading about all the 'what ifs' has certainly raised my anxiety levels to their maximum.

Some people do indeed mistake actual allergies as being a picky eater. You can thank people like my brother for that. Not really allergic to things but hates things like sour cream and really so many foods it is hard to keep track of, but acts like he is going to die if he even gets a small taste. It can be annoying and gets to the point you just want to yell at him and say stop. Just suck it up and eat it or throw it away already. I do not need to hear you whine for 10 minutes straight. Other people actually think if you eat small amounts of something you will eventually build up a tolerance to said food and the allergies will go away, but pretty sure that does not work. Our genes are indeed different and certain things just do not mix with our bodies. I actually think I am a tad allergic to mustard. Makes me feel hot and sweaty sometimes, but love the taste so eat it anyway, but almost always get a bit of a hot and sweaty feeling every time I eat something with mustard.
