I had recently written a post on the use of cellphones while driving as its really dangerous to us and on going bystandards.
In one of the comments The Horse @TheHorse had asked "Why don't they enforce that law? on the use of handsfree while driving.
Its actually obvious that if the phone is not allowed how could the use of handsfree or bluetooth be allowed.
I googled a little and came across a blog which actually stated that there is a law where if caught using handsfree or bluetooth devices there are chances that he/she may lose their driving license.
But its actually quite difficult to figure out whether the driver is using a handsfree so in most cases they are just let gone.
I think you country might also be having this law and you might not be aware of it, but we should be bothered about our safety first then abiding by the law.
I hope you guys to don't use handsfree while driving even that can be distracting while driving.

I do use handsfree while driving when necessary, but never text. I don't find it anymore distracting than speaking to a passenger in the car. I don't even have to take my eyes off the road, because the phone is voice activated through the car.

Too many laws make too many criminals. That's what's wrong with the world.
I see nothing wrong with using bluetooth or hands free while driving. It's like talking to a passenger sitting next to you. Are they going to outlaw that also?

@Starmaiden @TheHorse Sorry but how would too many laws make to many criminals, I mean they are to keep them in control. I agree with you its just like talking to the person next to you but if its implemented then its obvious that they found something. I came across this link which actually is a pdf you might as well go through it as to know why use of handsfree is illegal :-

@kavinitu I live in what USED to be the free world. All of the freedoms our vets fought for are being stripped from us through the enactment of bylaws. The more laws restricting a person's freedom of choice, the more people are going to rebel against them. (break the law)
People wish to be free. Too many laws inhibit a person from using their own judgement and common sense. If it seems that people are losing their common sense it is because they are not given the freedom to exercise it any more. (I'm a rebel, not a criminal. I break every law but The Ten Commandments. They are the only laws that matter to me) :-)

The people I see all over Berkeley and Walnut Creek aren't using hands free. They have their cell phone in their lap. You can see their heads moving up, and then down, as they watch for the light to turn and then get back to their messaging. Sometimes, if I'm not in a rush, I will not honk when the light turns green. I want to see how long they'll sit there at the green light before they look up. Usually someone behind me honks after seven seconds or so. Of course I am bothered more when they cause accidents.

I actually never use the cellphones while driving no matter for how long the phone rings. You never know for what reason the phone might be and cause you a sudden distraction. No use of cellphones then no chance of using the headphones also.

I really don't know the laws on this in Pa but then I don't own or use a cell phone. I know I have seem the police on their cells while driving thou and I do think that should be outlawed. I'm not so sure if the hands free should be as to me that would be just like talking to someone riding with you.

Actually as far as I know that the police have constantly to be in contact with their fellow officers on some or the other updates so its obvious that they might use their radios or cellphones. Yeah I also feel that use of headphones is like talking to someone next to you but there are some disadvantages, I request you to please go through the link I posted in one the comments above.

@To keep in contact with their base they don't use cell phones, that is what the radios are for. Well for me it doesn't matter as I don't own a cell phone and since it isn't against the law here there is nothing that can be done other being a defensive driver and watch what others are doing.

@kavinitu Thank you Kavita, for this valuable information.
I will try my best to reduce using headphones or atleast keep it in less volume and gradually stop using it completely.
In these days of heavy traffic , it gets extremely irritating and boring while driving.
Hence sometimes earphones are good partners.
But I will try to change this habit at my best.

@avi256 Thank you Avinash for taking my advice seriously, we do matter a lot for our family at home. Women are more concerned when the men of the family drive away on bikes because there are more risks involved then driving a car. I can understand that it must be pretty boring while driving and music can be fun, but you must have read that there are some disadvantages also. So be safe and keep other also safe

Wow! While I agree that people should not text or talk on the phone while driving - I'm not sure how using handsfree is any different than talking to a passenger... but then sometimes talking to one's passengers is distracting as well

Hello Faye, I found and article have pasted a link in the comments above which says
"It has been suggested that wearing headphones while driving causes more problems than listening to dashboard mounted equipment such as a radio, because headphones reduce acoustic cues and can divert a driver’s attention from information helpful to their ability to drive safely, such as the sirens of an approaching emergency services vehicle."

It is not illegal here. People can talk on phone via bluetooth or handsfree while driving. I don't agree with this regulation, because it still distract.

According to the article link I posted in one of the comments above there are certain disadvantages of using headphones while driving. Not everyone agrees with it but an experiment was conducted which proved that it does cause distraction while driving. After all it our life we should be more bothered about it then to be concerned if it restricted by the law or not, what say

@anikoonline That's exactly what it is, the mind can just concentrate on one subject with perfection at once.
