"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
First point is the use of commas. This tells us the writers' attended each part to be dependent of the other parts. They actually debated the use of a comma or semicolon.
Second point then is to realize bearing arms and Militia is reliant on each other. By capitolizing Militia the founders were actually meaning a formal organization like National Guard etc.
Third point is "well regulated" means exactly what it says, regulated meaning rules/laws.
Forth point is the founding fathers chose to start with Militia not Arms meaning the Amendment was established to protect Militias.
In summary, the Second Amendment was designed to allow for State malitias who are well trained and regulated in the use of arms to protect against a tyranical government. The word of the law can be followed while still doing extreme back ground checks and not allowing private persons to own weapons of war. If you believe in the Constitution as written form a militia with an armament where weapons are stored for the training and protection of society but realize it does not give a right to just anyone to own any weapon.
