power returned, dinner continued

Our power came back last night in less than an hour, although that threw off the dinner schedule completely. still, we survived and managed to eat our Easter supper sometime before 7:30. I didn't have a chance to come back and update last night, and I know some of you were wondering. I have a smoker that functions as a grill, but it's electric... so that wasn't an available option for finishing dinner. We've been wanting to replace our non-functioning propane grill for several years, but we haven't been able to work it into the budget. As soon as we think we can manage it, something unexpected comes up and we use the money for the unexpected thing instead. We have a camping stove, but we don't currently have any canisters of fuel for it. That's an easy fix, and I should get some in case we need to cook on it during some lengthy power outage (like during a natural disaster). Even if I had a grill and camping stove available to me yesterday, it would have been difficult to finish dinner that way, at least at the point the power went out. I had a big foil roaster pan of funeral potatoes that were half finished, plus the rolls and asparagus and corn to finish (although the rolls and vegetables could have been finished on either a grill or camp stove). I guess I need to work a bit more on my emergency preparedness. I guess I've been too busy handling short term emergencies to get ready for long term emergencies. The above photo is of some Easter eggs the kids made a couple of years ago (because this year's pictures are still on the camera).

@amadeo It happened last year on Father's Day close to dinnertime, but that's because a transformer overloaded due to the heat. It wasn't hot here yesterday, so I have no idea what happened.

power interruption is really so annoying but we have already gotten accustomed to it now

We rarely have power outages in my area. I've been in this house 13 years and I think we had one in that time and that was in the night so I didn't know until the next morning when the clocks were flashing.

@spiderdust Well I guess that would explain it as we rarely get intense heat!

We might have one or two a year, but it's more likely to happen when it's really hot outside.

Nothing is more reliable when the power goes off as a wood stove. It's cheaper too. We used to have one and it functioned as both a stove and furnace. It's intense heat kept the whole house warm. :-)

I love wood stoves, but we're not allowed to have one here. It would definitely be a good solution if we could us it!

Those eggs are cuties. What matters is that you are with the people you love and spending quality time. Happy Easter, Kelli.
