A flea-bitten grey

My husband recently took a lot of photos at an endurance ride held at Collie in Western Australia. He is selling the images and the money raised will be used to buy second-hand clothing for poor children in Nepal. It can be difficult to photograph horses in action but he has managed to capture some really lovely images. He also took photos of a few of the horses at rest including the one I’m sharing here. Equines come in many colours including spotted (Appaloosas) and stripes (zebras). The Arab pictured here, Kala Nakab (stable name Saga), would be categorised as a flea-bitten grey as he has specks of colour throughtout his white coat. Nakab is 18 years old and much loved by his owner who told Vince he had captured the soul of her horse. Horsey people can be very biased about their own mounts but it’s nice that she is so thrilled.

Oh my lol when you said flea bitten in the title I felt so bad thinking the horse had been eaten up badly by fleas.

@JudyEv No worries! While reading your post I figured out how it got it's name and realized it was not infested with fleas

Oh sorry! I know what I'm talking about! I forget that some terms are totally unknown to others.

Yes, you can criticise the person but don't dare criticise their pet.

The majority of horses there were Arabs with a few other breeds thrown in.

I do not know if a horse has a soul, but the photo is very aesthetic. And I like the color of this quadruped.

@JudyEv I have noticed the use of the word "equine".

Haha. I had to say 'equines' in case someone wanted to argue that a zebra isn't a horse.

He has quite a nice Nikon and has just bought a new 400mm lens which is his favourite toy at the moment.

That is a great picture. It can be very hard to get good ones of horses. I hope the photos sell good for your husband.

Thanks. And yes, horses can be hard to photograph. He took about a dozen or more of one horse but there is only about one really good one amongst them.

@JudyEv Yes, there is a tight bond between the rider and the animal itself.

Endurance riders spend hours and hours with their horses so there is indeed a special bond.

He has a really lovely head. Apparently the 'bites' have got darker and darker as he has aged.

Because I know the term it never crossed my mind that people might take it literally. I learnt that today!

Some people have promised us clothes so we won't buy more clothes ourselves till we see what happens. If we get enough clothes donated Vince will take the money with him and perhaps buy blankets for needy families. He will ask some of the Nepalese people he met last time where the most need is.

Flea bitten is usually a derogatory term. I never heard it applied to coloring.

Each sport and hobby has its own jargon, hasn't it? Perhaps I should have explained earlier - or used a different title.
