POPULARITY A quarter of a million fans each year travel to Wyoming (U.S.) to watch bullriding, steer wrestling, and other events. RODEO ORIGINS Rodeo is a sport that grew out of the cattle industry in the American West. Its roots reach back to the sixteenth century. The Spanish conquistadors and Spanish-Mexican settlers played a key role in the origin of rodeo with the introduction and breeding of horses and cattle in the Southwest. RODEO ORIGINS TODAY Today's rodeos are an offspring of the early shows of the Wild West Shows of the late 1800's that featured great cowboys such as Buffalo Bill Cody and Bill Pickett, who invented bulldogging. Have you ever attended a rodeo? Do you have any memories of that experience that you particularly enjoyed? Source- parade.com Photo- pinterest.com

That is so cool @Plethos! Kind of like paying homage to it's origins. What a great way to enjoy a weekend

I have never been to a rodeo but I admire these men and women who take part in this profession since it is exciting as well as risky.

Yes, so true @Deepizzaguy. The injuries these cowboys endure are the same as professional athletes. They are a tough group for sure!

@dgobucks226 Cowboys have to be real tough guys to earn a living in a rodeo.

I was brought up near Laramie Wyoming, so rodeos are very familiar to me. Cheyenne's "Daddy of them all" Frontier Days rodeo is a huge deal, but there are many other rodeos around the country, and smaller ones of varios sorts in almost every big town in the state.

I saw a documentary of sorts on rodeo cowboys and their lifestyle. Traveling from one circuit to the next to compete in the rodeo events. I've never been to one but watching them on TV, it looks fascinating! Have you gone in person to experience rodeo?

@dgobucks226 Yes I have been multiple times. We have a pretty good one here each year, but I haven't been to the Cheyenne one in several years. Some of my family participate locally, but don't do the circuit. That's a hard life.

No, I have never attended a Rodeo. There are no rodeos in Europe and I had not the occasion when I visited the United States.

Would of been interesting from an historical perspective to be around in 1887 to see Buffalo Bill's wild west show. Real cowboys doing their tricks. A forerunner to the modern rodeo

Attended a rodeo once and enjoyed it but I was really scared for the horses in the carriage races (I think that is what it is called)

I imagine they have many different events designed to entertain. Not familiar with that one. I always find the riding of bulls fascinating and but scary for those cowboys.
