The clinical coordinator miscalled and sent me a text message confirming that we will have our last 2 days of duty tomorrow and on Friday. Because of that, I cut short my fingernails once again. Trimmed fingernails are a part of the completeness of the student nurse’s uniform. Although some of my colleagues have painted nails (beige or gray but not red), the students should not have colored nails and should also be cut short. When we are not on duty this summer vacation, I am so sure that my other colleagues will have longer painted nails. The picture attached is a nail cutter given as a token by a colleague who went to Hong Kong last year. The nail cutter also has a bottle opener. Do you grow your nails long, and have them painted as well? How many weeks do you have your manicure/pedicure?

From what I can see, the photo only looks like a bottle opener to me. I have mani/pedis every two weeks at a salon and prefer short nails.

my nailcutter
Here is a better view of the nail cutter. Do you paint your nails with loud colors like red or fuchsia?

I cut my fingernails because I feel having long nails can feel heavy. I only have pedicure every 2 weeks.

nice of you to have your toenails done every 2 weeks. when our manicurist was still alive, we do have our toenails done after every month. now, our ingrown nails are no longer hurting because we cut our nails in straight line and not curved.

@mlgen1037 yes that is true. i wonder if they have to scratch something, do their nails make that creeping sound of "krrrrkkk", like scratching nails at the blackboard? eeeww. the longest nails that i have had was just above the nail-bed, maybe a millimeter short.

@ridingbet thank you, Ingrid. I actually want to have those ingrown removed. I like the sensation. Also, I why is it I hate my fingernails long? I do not understand why other women can actually carry longer nails.

true. i also think those who have long nails do not have jobs that need more handwork. but i think secretaries or office workers can have long nails.

nurses should also have short nails because we handle people. but now that summer break is nearing, maybe some clinical teachers can grow their nails long.

I fully agree with @DianneN this is not a nail cutter, this is a bottle opener.

@ridingbet Now I can see the nail cutter. Weird that they have attached a nail cutter to a bottle opener.

I do not and cannot grow my nails long. When I grow it, the nails weaken and easy to break. When I painted my nails. I feel that my nails are like heavy so I do not like the feeling

@rakski if it breaks despite your taking of vitamin c, then i think there is something wrong with your health if it easily breaks

maybe you can paint it colorless? the nail polish has the unique effect of hardening the enamel of our nails. if your nails break, maybe you lack vitamin C.
