MORE THAN A RESCUER

Focal Passage 3: 3 But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. More Than a Rescuer Once again we find ourselves in the same position. It is an endless cycle. We are constantly in need of being rescued. When does it end? As long as we live in a sinful world, we will always need to be rescued. That is just life. However, we don't have to find ourselves in need of being rescued from the same thing continually. We often put ourselves in the same dangerous position. We do this by not applying one aspect of the above verse. Certainly we allow God to rescue us from our enemies and those so called friends who want to hurt us. We definitely allow God to be our source of joy and pull us out of despair and depression. We even let God sheild us from danger and hurt by guiding our choices. But allowing God to be our glory, that is a different matter entirely. We want the glory. We want the praise. Yes we may give God a thanksgiving prayer or put on the praise list at church how He delivered us. But to totally abase ourselves and allow God to be our glory is not as easy. Yet I believe that it is in this deliberate choice of dying to self and living a life that completely uplifts Christ that we find true freedom. We have to acknowledge God as more than a rescuer. He is to be the glory that shines so bright in our lives, that people don't even notice us.
