Chipmunk gets the early worm

I saw a chipmunk yesterday morning upon leaving work. So I grabbed my camera to take some pictures.. He was sitting so cute eating I thought I ought to video that.. So I did.. Then while watching him through the viewfinder.. I finally noticed WHAT he was eating.... A WORM! Ew. So I guess I knew that they could eat "meat".. . I had hamsters that did... I just never saw it.. And I think the worm was still squirming.. GROSS. when he finished I stopped videotaping him and he came back. So I thought.. Get some pics... And would you believe.. He had Another worm! Here it is!

What a cute little guy! We only see them as pets here. I'd love to see them in the wild. This one doesn't seem to be particularly shy, though, and let you get a good photo of him. Many animals which are mostly vegetarian do occasionally eat meat. Perhaps they feel the need for extra protein or maybe there just aren't too many nuts and seeds around at this time of year!

Well, I am sure he was shy enough.. I was in a car and about 20 feet away from him when I got the picture. so he didn't think I was a threat.

Thanks... I have gotten more chipmunk shots since I got my new camera with amazing zoom.. I love it. this was one I got a few months back..

I scold my son last week when he said squirrels can eat meat. I never knew that. Then he shows me in his book. I am sorry for my lack of knowledge.

@minx267 I have seen them eating fruits and vegetables. We had lot in out native place and we often get mangoes and other fruits half eaten by them.

Yep, they need B12 too. Some countrie make worm bread for people to eat.

Yeah. Even squirrels are known to require a little meat now and then. It is quite rare to actually see it though, so that's a great find.
