Diligently Watering Our Plants

Since the onset of the dry season, my family and I have been diligently watering our plants in the front garden and in the backyard. We water at least three times a day to make sure that our plants store enough water, especially during the hottest time of the day, which is somewhere between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
I do the watering early in the morning and in mid-morning, before the day gets too hot. Then my girls water again when they come home from school, which is shortly before 4 p.m. Then my husband waters the plants again when he comes home before dinnertime.
So far this regimen has worked well --- our plants continue to thrive despite the grueling summer heat. Thanks to our very trusty watering cans and the effort we put in as a family!

That's great
! Here, we have to watch our water usage because of our drought - it does not rain much here. But luckily (in a way), we don't have much planted in our yard. But we are at least watering our lawn (only in the front yard) and our citrus trees (they are doing well). This spring we have diligently watered our non-fruit bearing cherry tree as it suffered from beetles last season from the drought . . . the blooms are finally coming in nicely again this year.

Thats good to know. We try to conserve water too so we use watering cans. It's a lot of effort but it's fun.

@almostoveryou When we heat up the water for the shower, we save the cold running water in water jugs . . . at least we can water any trees/plants with that and not let the water go down the drain to waste. It is a lot of effort but it's all good

@much2say yes, we used to do that too when i was growing up. It definitely saves a lot of water.

So far it has been an issue here to as we are not getting enough rain. We get very little every couple of days. Some weeks we didn't have any. I have been doing the watering as I do everything in the garden. My husband does not like gardening.

@almostoveryou It finally has but some days are hot as summer and others not so bad. Nights always seem cool though.

I am sorry to hear that, Nancy. Maintaining a garden can be an arduous task during times of little rain or drought. Has Spring arrived in FL?

That's the right thing to do. Plants lose about 50% of the water that's given to them during the heat of the day. It's best to water early in the morning and sometime in the evening, when they can store the water until the next day.
