Are You A Name Brand Snob?

I work in a grocery store and I am a e-commerce clerk which means I shop for people who place orders online and then come pick them up. I know that when I shop for my own groceries, I have certain foods that I have to have the name brand product while others I will choose the generic. Of course now that I work for a grocery store, I will buy their brand because I get a discount on it. Anyway as I shop for other people's groceries, I notice that there are some that buy all name brands, some that buy a mixture, and some that buy only the generic brands.
I don't mind some of the off brand products and there are some that I prefer over the brand name ones, but for some things I have to have the name brand version. So I'm wondering are you a name brand snob? Or do you prefer the generic versions?

@morgoodie Haha, that's the main factor people got worried if their money will be worth it buying generic products.

@rheicel Right because you never know and if you don't like it then you feel even more disappointed because you were trying to save money in the first place.

Yes, I can relate to that. Sometimes, I hesitate too because I don't want to not like and have wasted my money trying to save money.

I'm mainly a generic brand buyer. Some products like Nathan's Hotdogs, I get that at Walmart is the cheapest, but got to be Nathan's only. Frito Lay always got something kind of sale at CVS, so then I'll get name brand if cheap enough. We don't have a dollar store here in Hawaii... for some reason they open then close within a few years. Wish we had a dollar store so can afford brand name products.

Yeah, me too, got to be Nathan's. Auntie Anne's uses Nathan's hot dog...got their pretzel dog and they use Nathan's, and it was good, so after finding them at Walmart, I was satisfied with them.

There are certain things that I just have to have a certain brand of and hot dogs are one of them. I haven't tried Nathan's though. We have a company here locally that makes hot dogs, bologna, and some other sausage type meats and they are by far the best ones I have ever eaten. I buy off brand chips except if there is a sale on the name brand that is a good deal. Otherwise the generic ones are just as good. I wonder why the dollar stores don't last long there.

@oahuwriter A pretzel dog sounds good. I've never had one before. I might have to try Nathan's. We sell them at the grocery store I work at. I am glad that you like them and were able to find them at Walmart.

I will always try out own brand stuff because sometimes the products are just as good as the generic brands. I'm fussy when it comes to coffee but in most cases if it saves me money I will buy the store brand.

@morgoodie I used to work in a supermarket and got store discount. I missed having my discount card when I left.

@sprite1950 It does make it nice since groceries are so expensive and my son eats constantly. I don't know what I will do when he is a teenager.

I buy store brand coffee. Some of the name brand coffees are too expensive. We have a Keurig so the pods can be pricey. I get a good deal on the store brand with my discount especially if it is on sale as well.

@morgoodie Most of the food I buy is meat and produce: veggies and fruit. I don't buy much from the aisles, except tomato sauce and tuna. Other than that, the cleaning supplies, tp, paper towels, and such are the only things I will buy that are either store brand or brand name items.

Me too. I do buy a lot of store brand food, but it does depend on what it is.

@just4him That makes it easier to stay away from all the expensive brand name items when you don't shop the middle aisles.

@morgoodie some generic products are produced by the same company of the brand one.

@nela13 That is true and those ones are the ones that taste as good as the name brands, I think.

Right a lot of time the generic is just as good. Some things I just have to have the brand name though.

I buy the name brand when it is on sale, but usually I buy the generic. It saves me money.

I will buy the brand name if it is on sale too, but sometimes the generic version is still cheaper. I buy generic to save money too.

@db20747 I am so bad at remembering to use coupons. I like my digital ones though since all I have to do is load them to my loyalty card and then I don't have to remember that I have them.

Right I am like you. I choose the brands that I like. As for clothing, I don't need name brands as they are more expensive. I will go for cheaper versions as long as they are of a good quality even though they are less costly.

That's a good idea. I never thought to do that. I might try that sometime and see how it works for me.

@hereandthere I have tried generic dish soap but I do prefer Dawn. It just seems to be better to me, but it could just be me. I don't try generic laundry soap either but I do get other brands besides Tide or Gain as they are the more expensive ones. However, I do like Gain's Apple Mango Tango scent.
I hope the canned goods work out well for you. You'll have to share your experience with us.

Unless there are quality issues, I go for the most economical.

Right, I am like you. Most generic brands are close enough in quality to the name brands with the higher cost so I will buy them instead.

@db20747 My kids like them and they do have some that are similar to the regular brands such as Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops, Frosted Mini Wheats, Cocoa Puffs, and etc. I am sure you would like them and they have less ingredients as well. Let me know how they work for you!!

Yes bread is better with the name brand. Store brand bread just seems like it is already stale. I started buying organic cereals since most of the regular ones have so many bad ingredients in them. I actually like the organic ones better. I usually stock up on them when they are on sale so they don't really cost me any more than the regular brands would. You're right brand name products do have some fancy packaging.

Sometimes I like the consistency of certain name branded products, but I'm not really a brand loyal person. If I've tried a store brand version of something and liked it well enough, I'll keep buying the store brand. If I get a special discount or bonus buying the store brand, we'll get the store brand.

I am like that too. I buy more store brand items now than I used to because I get an extra discount on them so that's an extra incentive for me.

I usually will buy name brands but have bought the store label on occasion. Some of the store labeled products taste just as good, for example I have gotten peanuts which taste just as good as brand.

Yes, I will also purchase store brand nuts because they taste pretty much the same. I am the same way with peanut butter. I buy the store brand.

I am not a brand snob when I go to the grocery shop. But I stick to exact brans when it is about buying make-ups and cleaning products.

I can understand about using the name brands for make up as you are using them on your skin and near your eyes. You don't want to take your chances with that causing irritation or other problems. I will buy store brand cleaning products though in most cases.

@morgoodie I read some articles that cheap and no name make-ups can contain dangerous elements for the skin and they can cause allergic reactions.

@anikoonline That is what I would be worried about with generic makeup.
