Bullies in the Workplace

There is at least one bully at the store I work at. He works third shift so he isn't there when many people are there, but since I usually am in before 6 a.m. I have had to deal with him. For some reason, he thinks he is the greatest employee there, but he is just a rude bully.
I have had a couple of run ins with him with one incident where he ran into me on purpose with a pallet and then acts as if it is my fault. He didn't like it much when I got him in trouble by telling the manager about it. But I am not going to put up with that behavior.
The other day as I was talking with another co-worker about him, she told me about another incident that involves him basically threatening another girl who usually works third shift. Apparently, he was over heard saying sexual comments about another worker. The girl he is now threatening told the managers and he got into trouble. Now when he is near this girl he keeps saying snitches get stitches. He was also over heard saying that if it had been a male who snitched on him then they would get punched.
My sister also works at the same store and knows the girl better than I do. I was telling her about it, so she talked to the girl and told her that she should go to the union about him because no one should be afraid to go to work. I hope she takes this advice and he loses his job. It isn't right that he is like this.
Have you ever encountered a bully in the workplace? What did you do?

Yes I have and it made my life miserable. It was only when I confronted her on the advice of a friend that it stopped. I hated going to work as I was quite new and the bully was well established. When you are new you don't want to make waves so I tolerated her for a while and then asked her if she had a problem with me? Her face was a picture, she went red and stuttered that she didn't. After that things got better. No one should have to tolerate bullying in the workplace.

That won't work in this situation. They also think he is stealing food, but they don't have the proof. With so many complaints, you would think they would do something. I think because he is on third shift the managers just blow it off.

@morgoodie Some people seem to get away with far too much although in my experience they usually get caught out in the end and something will bring it to a head, Running into you with a pallet is dangerous. They are heavy and can do damage. What if he had seriously injured you? This guy needs dealing with,

@sprite1950 Well luckily the pallet was empty at the time, but he still could have hurt me. I think he must hate women come to think of it because all the people he has issues with are women. I hope it all comes to a head soon.

I think the employer should fire him if he is wise. Such a bully will bring anxiety to everyone.

Yes, he should be fired. Things are still happening to people that work with him but they still haven't done anything with him yet.

Yes, there are many of them out there, seems like there is more and more and sadly many of these people get put in positions of authority because companies like people who get things down no matter the cost. Really only way you can get them to stop is do what they do to you except worse. Have to be smart about it though and can't harm them. That is what I did with one guy who was much bigger than me. He did not respect me because I was much smaller and would just annoy the hell out of me. I just started pranking him so bad that he never screwed with me again.

@morgoodie Some are indeed, like that. Really only thing you can do is make his life miserable as possible like he does you. Maybe pranking him is not your thing, but maybe other things you can figure out being that if management does not address the issue and he does not leave you alone.

I hear you. Usually, bullies will stop once you stand up to them. However, this guy is different. He doesn't care if you stand up to him. He makes a comment and I comment right back at him. I am not afraid of him and he knows it. I've tried to be civil to him, but that doesn't work either. I just ignore him now and do my job. If something else happens, I will report him again and just go from there. At some point, management is going to have to do something.

@crossbones27 He hasn't really done anything to me in a while and I try to not work in the area he is in. I don't usually have to work with him that long since he is third shift and I work first. Usually, he is gone a couple hours after I start, if I go in and open. He's just a big child who needs to grow up and stop being a bully, but that probably won't happen. My being in the same building as him is enough to irritate him. I laugh because he is the one that is upset and not me.
I am glad that you were able to take care of your bully situation.

I hope so too. They need to stop these kinds of situation when they start. No one should have to work in hostile conditions. I am glad that you have never had trouble in your work situations.

I am sorry your boss was a jerk. It is hard to work somewhere when the boss isn't a good one. I hope you don't still have the problem.

She did and they told her that she needed to talk to one of the managers before they get involved. I am not sure if it will do her any good but I hope so. She is a really nice person and it isn't right that they took her off of third shift which she went on to get more hours. It's all messed up. They need to get rid of the jerk instead.

Yes. I've encountered one when I was still a teacher .She was the unpopular guidance councilor. Some of our colleagues did not like her ,too. For them, she was like a Miss-Know-it-all. Luckily, she was terminated the next school year, I do not know what was reason why but I was so happy that she was no longer around the next year.

Right they are in schools too. I was bullied throughout school. I am sure the bullies learned their behaviors from their parents. It is a shame but that is how it is I guess.
