Blade Runner

I was absolutely bushed yesterday afternoon, and decided that I just needed to veg out in front of the TV, so I did a movie marathon. The last of the three movies I watched was Blade Runner, which was made in 1982 and set in a dystopian future in ... wait for it ... 2019! I couldn't help smiling at what the writers, just 36 years ago, imagined the world would be like by NEXT YEAR. I remember studying the novel 1984 when I was at school. That year seemed sooo far in the future then, but now there are whole generations that weren't even born in 1984. It makes me think that, if every I write a book that is set in the future and feel I need to put a date to it, it will be a very long way into the future. Or something like "Stardate XXX" with no actual reference to real time. Have you seen Blade Runner? What do you think about its depiction of 2019?

I haven't seen the film. You don't say if whatever it was they predicted was anything like accurate.

Yes this is true. And I can't wait the year in the back to the future, flying skateboard and so on....

I saw Blade Runner so long ago that I don't remember much about it. Did you see last year's long awaited sequel?

No, I didn't know there had been a sequel. I'll have to look out for it.
