Strange dream. Do you analyze your dreams?

I just awoke from a strange dream. I was at a wedding in NY, wearing an uncomfortable suit. Suddenly, family drama meant that that we all took off our suit jackets and went informal (don't ask me why one follows from the other). In the back of my mind was the thought that "I just want to find my way home." But then I was in the back of a car driven by my nutty cousin, who proceeded to release the parking brake in a garage while on a slope, causing a three-car crash. I calmed down the guy whose fancy car was hit, but then found myself in an alley, where a speeding beater (old car) almost ran over a toddler I didn't know. Finally, I was on my old street in Chicago, showing all of my old haunts to a younger black guy, who looks a lot like one of my best students right now at the College. In real life, there IS drama in my extended family, but there is also drama at the preschool where I work. I haven't been to our family cabin in Montana in two years, and I also want to get back to Chicago, where I spend most of my formative years. My class is a good one, and I've been grading papers this weekend. Do you try to analyze your dreams? Freud says there's manifest content in dreams (recent stuff) and latent content (what we're trying to work out) as well. It feels like I have a lot going on in my subconscious (or unconscious) right now.

According to Freud the unconscious mind governs behavior to a greater degree than people suspect. Psychologists are divided about dreams, for most of them dreams are only the result of random brain activity. Except some premonitory dreams I had in my life, I think that most of the time my brain is simply having fun while I sleep.

@TheHorse I had a weird one the past night, we were in New York (with my husband) and we were walking searching for our niece who was lost there. For the moment I only remember we entered a cinema where everyone was speaking Italian... I have to think what I have seen in the movie. Later I all my niece.

"Premonitory dreams"? That doesn't sound very random. Do elaborate.

I had also a strange dream, a guy named Aaron keep appearing in my dream, who is completely stranger to me. I don't know why and I didn't even analyze what it means...

What was the overall feeling in the dream? Was Aaron a good dude? Could he represent someone in your life who is real?

There are times I have wondered what some of my dreams meant. Before I went to my 30th Class reunion I used to dream about some of the houses I lived in IL. And these were places with Bad memories as I am a Survivor of Childhood abuse. But once I got back there to see these places the dreams have stopped which is Good.

@TheHorse Maybe it was facing the demons so to speak, or because my husband was with me? Either way I will take it

Interesting! I wonder what it was about seeing the houses again that made the bad dreams stop.

@KrauseHome Yep. Makes sense. I had another one the other night about this place I always visit. The conflict was the same.

Every time I dream, I wonder, what does this dream mean? So I will search it on the Internet.lol

@caopaopao Well, his hypotheses were based on clinical data, not "empirical" data.

Much of what is on the internet is BS. I'd use Freud as a starting point, and then think of your own theories.

Dreams can be really weird. I used to have a recurring one where I was driving a car but it was going backwards and I couldn't brake to put it into a forward gear. I always believed I had this dream when I was feeling out of control in my life, when things beyond my control were taking over.

@JudyEv I've had some repeating dreams as well. And some repeating places I visit that are at least partially fictitious.

@TheHorse I don't usually try to interpret my dreams although sometimes the origin is pretty obvious but this particular dream I would have over and over.

We all dream. But some remember them more than others. This just happened to be the last dream I had before I woke up this morning.

@anamika161088 Yeppers. Sometimes dreaming helps us remember stuff too. If one has an exam, it's good to study right before going to sleep.

I don't trust them. But Freud and Jung are also difficult to empirically verify.

The only dreams I don't like are the ones where I feel like I haven't slept when I wake. I would say you do have a lot going on in your life, and it's translated in your dreams. I'm glad none of it was real.

Every life form probably dreams when it sleeps.
Every life form probably dreams when it sleeps. The human body dreams because of a satisfactionary portal of truth that tries to open inside a dream that connects you to your higher self. God dreams of his creation, and he says the words aloud, and creation manifests so. Man dreams in his mind's eye, and this opens him to creatively explore and understand his life, by his making playfully accurate connections, creatively alive, from his dreams, which can answer for him his deepest questions, at times. @TheHorse Maybe, it takes warm blood then to dream. My dog certainly dreamed often enough.

Right before waking, I had a strange dream, I hit a car that was parked to close and drove off , I was about to show up at an event to support my doctor, and at the end it was pouring rain! In the middle of all of that I just wanted to lay down and go to sleep. Analyze that!

Only you can analyze that! But Freud would look for the manifest content first (were you driving yesterday? Did you witness any close calls?) and then help you look for the deeper (latent) content (did you hide an error recently, etc.?)

@TheHorse Seen some banged up cars Friday night. I have to go for my check up next week. It rained yesterday, hard for a short time. I was tired yesterday so I did not work and went to bed early. No I have not hid anything.

@andriaperry So there's the manifest content. But what could the latent content be?

I think I have missed this one, @TheHorse. But I think our dreams have connection with our reality and what is at the back of our heads. I sometimes do want to find answers as to why that certain dream happened in connection to what is going on to your life.
