What would they Find?

I took the picture of a sidewalk.

I was sweeping the walk and started thinking what a useless job that is. It is always covered in junk from the oak trees and the rain runs dirt across it. All I could do is save it from the sands of time. I started thinking of it being covered up and the building besides. What if the entire area is hidden under dirt? If that happened in your neighborhood, what would future archaeologists find? If they dug up your yard, what would they discover?

In Luxor we met a man who used to play on a post which was about a metre high. Many years later after much excavation his 'post' was the top of a very tall obelisk and his playground covered ancient ruins. So it could happen!

Wow, that is some story. Can you imagine playing on top of ruins? When I was a kid, we went camping. Mastodon bones lay beneath our tents. They found them years later. Who knew?

Well, you surely know that this already happened in Italy, the buried city of Pompeii. In many Italian cities, when they dig to build new apartment complex they find the buried ruins of the ancient civilizations. Last week they have found a beautiful mosaic surely of ancient Rome.

@LadyDuck I will put that on my bucket list. It must have been remarkable to peek in on the past.

I have read a lot about that. It is fascinating. They learned so much about the customs, diets, and relationships of these people. I just like to revisit past civilizations. I can't go there in person but I can learn about them and see them. Just awesome.

CLAY! The only things in this yard are clay and sprinkler lines. I don't think there is room for anything else.

You never know. A woman on Facebook found a plaque with roses on it. It had some foreign inscription and a picture of an unknown person. It was just sticking up in her yard.

@cintol Things have a way of coming to the surface when you least expect them. People lived on the land you are occupying in the past. There could be an ancient ruin down there or even a dinosaur skeleton.

@akalinus It would be cool to find something like that, this house was built 3 yrs ago and every time I dig anywhere to plant, I hit either clay or sprinkler lines. If there is anything in this yard its so far down it will never be found!!

I always wonder what it would have been like thousand years ago where I live now, in a highrise apartment in a modern city. I think also what it would be like thousand years hence. We are surrounded by sea - siva

The earth constantly changes just as we change. Nothing ever stays the same.

@Shiva49 Did you ever lay down on the ground and completely relax? I used to do that and thought I could faintly feel some motion of the earth turning, maybe my imagination but who knows.

@akalinus The whole creative process changes everything all the time. Our planet, solar system, galaxy are all moving at breakneck speed but we don't feel it! There is no greater miracle and we are all part of the show! siva

There would also be ruins, buildings that fell down, the things people use in everyday life like dishes and cookware, furniture, all kinds of things. It would be like digging the ruins of past civilizations today. So what would they find in your neighborhood?

I don't think that we would find any "dark secrets" here.

There must be evidence of a secret somewhere. We all have them. Archeologists are also interested in everyday stuff. Think how excited they would be to find your old lawn chair or some flower pots.

I live in Florida, which is barely above sea level. The only thing under us is lots of beach sand. I'm pretty sure there aren't ancient ruins lying beneath us, although it is common to find giant Megaladon sharks teeth in our creeks!

I am also in Florida. There could be ancient civilizations under the sea or the earth. Land and water often switch places. I found seashell fossils on a road in NY state. Our house sat where an ocean used to be.

@akalinus I dig up sharks teeth all the time in the creeks here in our town, which is pretty cool considering I live in the middle of the state. I know that in ancient times Florida was underwater, so it's really neat finding evidence of that on what is now high ground!
