Getting Better At It

I'm slowly getting better at walking around in this walking boot. I can currently get around my apartment with the use of only one crutch.I hobble around like Tiny Tim in Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." It would be so much easier to move around if the boot wasn't elevated higher than my tennis shoes. It's difficult enough trying to walk while my fractured ankle is healing, never mind while being lopsided! I see the orthopedist again on Tuesday morning. I'm hoping by then my ankle will be all healed and he'll tell me I can ditch the boot. I'm tired of having limited mobility and am starting to get antsy about getting out of my apartment. I've been cooped up for over 2 months now. The only time I've left my home was to go to my appointments with the orthopedist. It's too much of a hassle trying to get up and down the stairs and then hobble around outside on crutches. I'm just glad this situation is temporary and not permanent. You don't really appreciate the ability to walk and move around freely until you no longer have it.

@infatuatedbby Haha, I'll probably take over for a bit, but then I'll have to have surgery (which got postponed when I broke my ankle) and then I'll be down recovering for another two months.

Thanks, I was expecting it to be healed by now. At least I have an excuse to not do any chores around the house. My boyfriend gets to handle all that.

Tiny Tim makes me cry every time I watch the cartoon. I am glad to know that you can move around with only one crutch. I can understand that you want to move freely and not be confined inside your apartment.

@Srbageldog Summer is coming and you will feel a lot better if you have no more your boot.

I feel like Ebeneezer Scrooge sometimes though, all cranky and wanting to smack people with my crutch. I will be happy when I can get out of my apartment again...although summer is coming, and it will be too hot to enjoy the outdoors.

I'm so hoping that the boot is removed and that all goes good for you. I know what it is like to be stuck in the house under different circumstances as you know. Soon you will be up and walking and not slanted!

Let's just hope I don't immediately trip and injure myself again once I'm fully mobile again!

I agree with you, when I fell and hurt my leg and ankle I felt like I was in prison.

I'm glad I work from home, I don't know how I would manage if I had a regular 9-5 job.

Walking with one foot higher than the other is hard on your back and hips. Someone gave me a pair of shoes they found in donations that they thought would fit me. They fit okay lengthwise and everything, but after walking in them for a few days my lower back and hips started bothering me. Then I realized that the shoes I was wearing were specially made for the person who originally owned them. They were ergonized for that person only. He or she had one leg shorter than the other so one of the shoes was made specifically to even out that person's stance.

You're right about that! Sorry about those shoes, I bet that was really hard on your back and hips. My lower back starts hurting awful after being up and moving around for just a little while in this boot I currently have to wear. You would think they could design something more comfortable, that isn't going to mess up your back and hips, and won't increase your likelihood of re-injuring yourself!
