A Worthy Woman Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a worthy woman? For her price is far above rubies. 25 Strength and dignity are her clothing. She laughs at the time to come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom. Faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27 She looks well to the ways of her household, And doesn’t eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her: 29 “Many women do noble things, But you excel them all.” 30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; But a woman who fears Yahweh, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands! Let her works praise her in the gates! (WEB) What qualifies a woman to be a mother? Is it that she is old enough to have children? Many women are mothers, but they are not all good mothers, or mothers their children respect or honor. Many are single, without husbands or significant others, raising children by the best means possible. Who’s to say whether a mother is good and worthy and who isn’t? We all have one mother, one person who influences us from the moment we’re born. For some, their mother chose to give them up to adoption, or they pass from this life early in their lives, so they are left without a mother and someone else takes on that role, and for many, they have their mother with them throughout their lives into adulthood and are a significant part of their lives. Still, how would you define a good mother? Solomon had a wise mother, who taught him what to look for, not only in a wife, but as the mother of his children. Her qualifications showed that above everything, she must fear God. A woman who feared God would gain the praise of her husband and the honor and respect of her children. When a woman feared God, she could look trouble in the eye and laugh at it. She was able to take care of her home, making certain her children had everything they needed, food, clothing, and a good education. She was good in business, as well as home management. Everything she did was for one purpose, seeing to the needs of her family. The only way that was possible, was to put God first in her life. With God, all things are possible. Are you a worthy mother? Let’s pray: Father, help me to be worthy of the role of mother to my children. Help me nurture them with love, giving them everything they need for their body and soul.
