what, no baby?

There were two toddlers on the bus last night, their buggies creating a corridor that only thin people could fit through. Both of them were being kept occupied by videos on mobile phones. When one of the phones was removed from grubby little fingers, much wailing and thrashing occurred, which stopped when a packet of crisps was produced. I worry about this next generation. Everything is so immediate, and the need for gratification is constant. Toddler having a paddy? Stick a video on. Give them food. One little boy in the supermarket last week was given a cake from a multi-pack {not yet paid for, so isn't this stealing?!} to keep him quiet while mum shopped. She actually said this to him. It's as if children aren't allowed to experience boredom anymore. But boredom is good and healthy. It increases imagination. It lets the brain puzzle things out. It helps little ones understand that life isn't all Champagne and roses, that it isn't fair, that it is hours of being stuck in traffic and nearly falling asleep in pointless meetings. Anyway, this led to a dream last night in which a member of my extended family enquired as to when I was going to have a baby. She seemed shocked when I said I didn't want one. I'm too selfish. And I am finally at peace with that, to the point where I don't understand this idea that all little girls are maternal and Mummy Material. *sigh* Anyway this post is going nowhere fast, and my bus journey will soon be over. So I shall just leave my disjointed thoughts here and go about my day.

I am scared thinking what the next generation will look like when they are adult. They do not respect the authorities, they want everything immediately and they are aggressive if they do not obtain what they want. I am so glad not to be young anymore.

Me too. I don't think I could cope with being a teenager in today's society.

Today because of faster life style and running the rat race parents hardly have time for their kids , because of which most of the kids are over pampered and kids they realize the fact and they take full advantage of the situation! Thanks!

I don't think it's just a case of them being spoilt. I think it's also that parents either don't want the hassle of tantrums or feel guilty for working too hard.

@poppylicious For the sake of our equilibrium some things are best not seen or heard by us. On the bus I heard the mother of a troublesome toddler tell him that if he didn’t shut up she’d take him to the doctor and the doctor would stick a big needle in him. Another threat I heard once, again on the bus, was that the child would be taken to the graveyard and be put down the bury hole with his granda. I ask ....

@Poppylicious As I’ve often suggested, people should have to pass tests and get a licence before being granted permission to procreate.

@xFiacre I think I am finally coming around to that way of thinking myself. :)

I get tired of seeing kids on their phones all the time. We take our kids to the park every so often so they are made to be outdoors, lol. The funny thing is that my mother is worse than any of us children when it comes to the phone and boredom. I have noticed as well that kids seem to have to have things immediately now. They aren't happy with waiting a little bit. None of these children are going to have patience!

Seeing toddlers being entertained on public transport scared me a bit, made me thinking of the past. Glad to be able to remind myself that none of my kids need to be entertained like that anymore.

My niece and I talk about what we can see, and what we've done. We sing songs and look at books. We get a lot of buses together - ever since she was a few months old - and I've never resorted to getting my phone out to keep her entertained. Still, I suppose it helps that I don't have to put up with her every single day!

@Poppylicious Made me think of my little daughter some decades ago. She said, 'I'd rather talk to you than to play with your cell phone mommy!' (broke my heart a bit, I was so keen to read a book )

Last night on our way from church, we were talking about, how when school use to let out how many kids you would see walking up and down the street, but not anymore. They're inside with video games.

And the ones you do see are walking along with their heads buried in phones, not looking where they're going. I think that Netflix and Playstations are this generations playing outside!

Children are ruined by parents actually. They just look on the present convenience to make them sit in a place calmly. However, it creates problems in the long run like become addicted on phones. They also get problem with their vision as well.

And posture. I work with 16-18 year olds and most of them can't bear to be without their phones. They're like extra limbs or a kidney or something!

That is the reason why kids of today think they are so entitled. All is instant. Even making decisions for them is instant.

And any decision they make actually has to be made by someone else, because they don't know how to make decisions!
