This last few days I developed my own nation State, or rather, NationState, the country of Universiox, in the Democratic region of Taijitu.
NationStates is a free online browser game, where you can create your own country, and system of government, and interact with other countries or fiercely retain your independence.
The site and game was created by writer, Max Berry, in 2002, inspired by his novel, Jennifer Government. There are now over five million nations interacting with one another.
Game play involves dealing with issues. You are presented with daily moral dilemmas, including whether or not to encourage or prohibit nudism in public places. I voted in favour of nudism in Universiox, which had an immediate impact on the clothing industry, and my country is regarded as excessively liberal minded.
The game is best played non too seriously, and it is fun to see your nation grow, and answer requests for various international alliances.
Universiox is also a member of the site’s World Assembly, originally named the United Nations until the real UN ordered a name change to avoid confusion.
You won’t earn money on NationStates but you can have fun and get lots of ideas for writing about here.
Now I have to look after the unicorns, the national animal of Universiox.
Arthur Chappell – Universiox’s President For Life
